Default WHAT HEADERS?

I want to get some good headers for my vette but the only ones I see advertised for a vette is the Dynomax headers and those look to be long-tubes will they work without cutting the exhaust? Or is there a set of headers that I can buy that will bolt right up no problems? Any help would be great!

The Dynomax Cerma full length headers are basically ideal for performance.
Yes, the ex. must be cut.

There is a possibility that a set of '82 Tubular exhaust manifolds would bolt to your existing pipes. However I wouldn't think it would be worth the effort or expense.

There is a varied opinion on headers. Some like full length for ultimate HP and some of us will take a middle of the road approch and use what is called a shorty header.

I weighed the facts of both and for my Street Touring application I went with a set of Sanderson Shorty Headers fo rmy '80. I think it will do exactly what I need done with a much better drivability. Keep in mind that this was my decision and not for everyones application.

As for full length headers, I have run them for years, They too cover an area of need and application.

From the way your post sounded I thought you were looking for something a little less intrusive. If so get the Shortys. JIM

There are many makers of this style header and some are thermal coated, with smog or without. But these too require the existing pipes to be altered somewhat.

Do a search on the C-3 Forum ans I'm sure you will be able to read about headers all night long. JIM

Hi......just been working thru the header question myself. All I can say is these Patriots (put this part no into Summit Racing's site, and up they pop) are great, pretty cheap, good looking, and I can swear that in a 350 '76, they fit! Sweep backwards from the chasis mounts, no problem.

PTE-H8025-1

$299.95

I have a set of 1982's if anyone is interested. I was going to use them on my Vette and then went for full length headers. They wouldn't go on my truck, because frame parts were in the way (a problem with the truck, not the manifolds).
They are a 2 1/2" exit vs. the 2" exit that the 1979 manifolds have. You would have to drop your front Y pipe and either buy a 1982 Y-pipe ( :yesnod: ) or get one made locally.

By the way, Hedman makes some nice full length headers also.

GET THEM CERAMIC COATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was too cheap and ordered them plain and now 1 year later they are getting ripped out for some ceramic coated ones and there is nothing wrong with them. But with all the billet/ chrome I've added the raw steel/ rusty look just doens't cut it. Thru SUMMIT $184 more but well worth it. My bad decision will cost me $296.00 and three hours of re-work. Just a suggestion.

OHSIXX: Could you tell us how hard the Dynomax's were to install? Do you have to get a different A/C bracket with those headers? Thanks for the help guys!

Don't know about the AC bracket since I don't have it. However, mine were very easy to install and havn't had a problem. Make sure you use high quality gaskets. Not the junk that are sent with them.
You will be impressed for the price.

No Prob with the AC brackets,
any header will require some reworking of the stock pipes, about $40 at any decent shop.
I am swapping my sbc for a 454.
I will sell my Ceramachrome Dynomax long tubes, less then 1000 miles in great shape for $250

Regarding the AC Bracket; I found PN 289-88304 in Jegs. It says SBC "Drivers Side" and my AC is on the passengers side.

So, I went to a muffler shop that sells DynoMax and he looked it up in his catalogs. Apparently, the bracket will fit on either side, so I am about to order it.

There are 2 a/c units. The newer ROTARY needs nothing. The old style someone posted needed a little grinding on the stock bracket.

Looked at your profile to answer.
You guys should put your yr. in side or sig.

My Dynomax ceramic Headers arrived this morning. The instructions regarding the A/C mount say to cut/grind the original mount as Ganey stated. You'll then need to make up a couple of spacers for it. Looks a fairly simple job.
