Have you checked the part #'s. If they are different it could indicate a mismatch. Even if it fit dimention wise it would probably have different fittings for fuel lines and return and evap and such. Im guessin you need a tank and found a good price on one from a 75. Wish i could provide more info for you.

Actually my freind has a 75 and his tank is only 16 gals. and he wanted to put the larger 20 gal. tank from the earlier models that don't have the bladder.

The Corvette Parts Interchange Manual lists 4 gas tanks available in 1970.
One of those gas tanks, Part Number 3967749 was used in 1975.
3967749 was also used in 1971 (except LT1/LS6) for cars with EEC. That part number was also used in 1972-74. Two different gas tank part number follow during 1976 through 1982.
EEC = Evap Emissions Controls...it's that charcoal cannister and the two hoses to the carb/manifold....and one to the tank check valve and then a hose to the tank up top on driver's end....canister is under driver's fender, inside the side scoop....
