I'm going to do a 383 before too long and wanted some ideas on how much HP/torgue a stock TH350 will handle. I'm going to end up with about 400hp and 450ft/lbs and don't want to destroy the tranny.

It all depends if you use sticky tires.. With regular street tires.. the tranny should be strong enough...

My rebuilt 350 tranny with QS kit did not stand up to the 355HP/405 ft-lb ZZ4 engine and showed significant metal shavings in filter. I dropped in a 700R4 with OD and QS to be sure.

I had a 383 in my old corvette that was in the neighborhood of 425 ft/lbs torque and my th 350 gave no problems.
one thing I would highly recomend is getting a shop to go over it to make sure it is in top shape then install a shift kit B&M or trans pak and I would also install a Trans temp gauge if your are going to be doing alot of racing just so you know whats going on inside there HEAT KILLS AUTOS.
I was going to change out my auto for a 4 speed untill I Rebuilt the Auto and now I won't go back .

I shot over 450 pounds of torque to mine and it had no problems, but that was on street tires. :crazy:
