Pitman Arm/Power Steering and Removal?
I'm getting ready to do a power steering overall with new control valve, cylinder, and pitman arm. The instructions read to get a pickle fork...
I bought one this am and it is a 15/16 size.
Is this correct size?
Any tips on the power steering redo?
Thanks, Josh

You're better off using a pitarm/tierod puller. The pickle forks tend to wreck the rubber boots.

I used a pickle fork but that was because I was replacing the tie-rod ends and boots. If you don't want to replace them, don't use the pickle fork.

Sounds like good advise, as I dont want to replace anything other than the control valve and pitman arm.
Any idea on the cost of the pitman/tie rod puller?
Anyone got a pic of this tool?
Glad I posted this ahead of next weekend, and have now added another tool to the box for "future" use. Thanks for the suggestions and posts.

Go to http://www.harborfreight.com/ and enter Pitman in the keyword search. You'll get the results above. If you need it quickly, this will show you what you need and comparison prices to go down to Sears or AutoZone to get it. Also, some places like AutoZone rent/loan tools.

Just did a similar job. Got the tools from Autozone through their tool loaner program. Basically you buy the tool, when your done return them - no questions asked, full refund. I used their coil spring compressor, tie rod puller & pitman arm puller. Figured why keep the tools when I can get them whenever I need them for N/C.
By the way why are you replacing the pitman arm? If you need a replacement let me know - I have an extra. I'll make you a deal.

You guys are awesome. I will check the harbor freight but sounds like autozone is the way to go....
I do have a pitman, but thanks for the offer.
Looking forward to a new project this weekend.
Thanks for all of the help, once again, this forum is bailing me out :steering:
