Can the float level be adjusted on this model without taking the carb off? Any links on this subject? Float adjustment is 3/16" right? Any advice or pointers greately appreciated. Almost scared to do this because car runs great. Just very rich. Thanks in advance

There is no need to pull the carb... have a look at http://www.corvettefaq.com - they have Lars' instructions along with great hints for trouble-shooting and tuning.

However I doubt the float level to be the reason for running rich.
If it runs rich in idle, it might be a bad adjustment of the idle mixture screws, bad power valve or bad choke mechanism.

If it runs rich in cruise or WOT, then the jet/metering-rod-combination is not right.

Have a look at Lars papers, they tell you about everything.

GM had some problems with early nitril(foam) floats absorbing fuel. The ONLY customer complaint was bad gas milage, nobody had a running problem A heavy float will definatly cause a rich condition. There are many other thing that will cause a rich condition though. Choke sticking or mal-adjusted,With Q-jets, avacuum leak or low vacuum due to a cam change will do that too.
