Difference in bumperettes on 69 & 70 vette.
I am restoring a 69 that the previous owner put a 70 front grill assembly on. How much difference is there between the bumperettes between these years. All catalogues show different part numbers. The one's I have don't have a part number on them and I can't tell if he reused the 69's when here changed the front end to 70, or are the one's I have 70's. If I'm a tightwad, can I bolt up the 70 bumperettes (if that is what I have) and nobody would know the difference?

68 and 69 are different from 70-72. The 70 model bumperettes have the extra "wing", painted argent silver, which "blends" into the grill surround "wing, also painted argent silver.
68-69 are plain all chrome without the extra "wing" on each, since the grill surrounds on 68-69 are smooth. Wish I had a pic, but they're significantly different. Chuck

You confused me with the extra "wing" statement. Do you mean they are shaped differently and not the same structurally. Or, did you mean one has a painted/textured inner curve and the other is just smooth chrome in this same area. Or, and you say they are the same except for the painted portion? Thanks

POOR choice of words on my part. You are 100% correct in your statement. The 70 up bumperettes have the "frosted" or "painted" inner portion which blends into the grill areas, while 68-9 are all chrome. To the best of my knowledge, they are interchangeable. Sorry for the confusion. :) Chuck

Question for Chuck Gongloff...
I hate to highjack this thread, but I'm gonna ask a related question. You mention that the grills are painted argent silver. The NCRS guide is kinda vague on this topic, but the way I read it, they are to be left "sand cast grey". Mine are painted now but I'm wondering which is "correct"???

Thanks all, for your help. Since mine are all chrome, they must be '69's already, and I don't have to look for a new set.

Sray454. You're right, they're "sand cast gray", not silver. I'll have to quit typing before engaging my brain. :) Chuck
