Tire flat spots from sitting.
After sitting for several weeks I took out the vette today for a nice little drive. The ride was very rough for the first several miles until the tires heated up a little and smoothed out. So on to my question.
How do you keep the tires from going out of round from sitting for long periods of time?
thanks

Re: Tire flat spots from sitting. (70 LS1)
I've seen some sort of "parking pads" for sale in the mail-order catalogs. They claim to prevent flat spots, but I have not personally tested them.

I have heard of several ways to avoid it but no way to prevent it:
1)There are small tire dollies that are for cars that allow you to push/move the car in the garage and cradle the tires to prevent flat spotting.
2)Over-inflation of your tires to minimize it.
3)Replace good tires with old rim/tire set for storage.
4) Use the tire mats as said above.
I have to store for long periods and usually just slightly overinflate before I put it away (38lb on 35lb tires). So far so good.

I haven't had that problem since I stopped using BFG's. Every set I've ever had were bad for flat spots. I'm very happy with my Dunlops and Yokahomas though. Jacking the car up to take the weight off is the easiest. It doesn't have to be off the ground, just take most of the weight off the tires.
