572cid/620hp.....On the Street??
We ordered one of these for a customer today. I do not know the particular vehicle application but it will be street-driven. This seems like overkill for a car used on the street but I leave it to you performance guys/gals to comment. Why would anyone want 620hp to cruise the boulevard?

You aren't looking for reasons to tell your wife why you just bought this engine, are you? ;)
What car is it going into? Seems like it would be hard to get in a 'vette.
Should be fun to see how that engine goes. 12:1 sounds way over the line... Chuck Harmon does it, though! I wonder if the motor was designed to run on pump gas or not. It would be on the edge for sure.
I don't know. I would never install a motor like that in a car that wasn't meant for anything but showing off. Driving the 78 everyday keeps me realistic in what I can do with it.

The 620hp version is 9:1 so I presume it runs on pump gas. I do not know the application.

Why would you want 620 HP. Why would you not. I have driven 600 HP on the street. It is definitly not a daily driver but man is it fun. It lites up the tires in almost any gear at any rpm. If you have any traction HOLD ON. You are at 100 very quickly. I would want 600 in my car if the rest of the drive train could handle it.

But what would you do with 620hp in a C3?
Seriously, I had a car for a long time that put out more power than this, and the weight difference wasn't that great. I had to take gear out of it (ran 3.27s) and used drag radials 100% of the time just to keep it from blowing the tires off at 85-90mph. Was it fun? Yes, a lot of fun. Walked away from anything I ran into that was "street legal"...as long as I was going from a roll. Downright nasty car and a sleeper (as a C3 would be with a 620hp beast of a motor). But, you go through clutches in a hurry, and you'd better upgrade ALL the driveline parts or it will leave you stranded.
As far as cooling, I would think with the right engineering you could keep anything cool enough to be road-worthy, and with 9.6:1 CR and that many cubes, I bet its pretty tame to cruise around in.
You might get tired of modulating a sintered iron clutch through parking lots, though.
<---been there, done that. :)

I would take that and then add a 250hp shot of Nitrous. More is better. There is no replacement for displacement, etc. etc. and etc.

My Wife thinks my stock L-82 is fast...so this is a no-go. Plus I would imagine the cost of that engine is more than my car is worth! The customer ordered it without regard to price. Just wanted one from the limited production run. And the order went through. Some people have deep wallets.

"And the order went through"
Can you post a part number? The dealership where I order my GM stuff told me yesterday that they're still not able to place an order.

Why would you want 620 horsepower? Why wouldn't you? I'm at around 500 horsepower (at the crank) right now man is it a blast. As Gordon said 100 mph comes so fast. That is why I am putting a blower on my car, why not have 800 horsepower on the street (is what I say :) ). The bottom line is you can never go fast enough[down the 1/4 mile] and you can never have enough power. The only problem is putting the power to the ground and finding a drivetrain that will take it.

If you want a serious performance application in a Vette.. you have to go with a DANA 60 or a Ford 9" rear end... and that's expensive for a Vette....
