Default Why doesn't my tach work?

I originally bought my 80 about 13 years ago. It had only 19,000 mi. at the time and now has 90,000. But the tach has never worked in that time. I've noticed this problem in many vettes of these years, the needle points straight up and never moves. Anyone else have this experience?

Mine was circuit board and tach filter. Replaced both and now works great.
