How to control wiper arm motion?
I'm not sure, maybe something needs to be replaced.
My driver's side wiper arm goes too far and literally scrapes the black trim off the windshield molding. Is there an adjustment, or perhaps a bad bushing/cam somewhere that controls this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: How to control wiper arm motion? (Pacin'California)
Steve: On my '76 there is an adjustment for the position of the wipe but not the width of the swipe. I had the same problem so I adjusted the position as far to the center of the windshield as I could. No one seemed to have an answer for adjusting the width of the swipe at the time I asked the forum. If you find one let me know.

The AIM for your car has a very easy to follow adjustment procedure for the adjustment of the wiper arm. Typically, the arm is adjusted so that it misses the edge of the trim on the window. Have you purchased an AIM yet?

3.5 years and no AIM yet. :) Once I got the credit card debt knocked back a bit, I suppose I better pick one up. (I know they're cheap, but I'll probably end up buying something else when I start ordering...)
I'll look into the position thing. Thanks much.

You might want to give this a try. Remove the offset arm that is attached to the output shaft of the wiper motor. You will notice that it is bent into a kind of lazy "Z" shape. If you increase the offset of this arm, you will basically be moving the two holes closer together. With the arm having less difference between the output shaft hole and the hole where the linkage attaches, there will be less sweep of the wiper arms. You will most likely also need to adjust the linkage to get the arms to park properly. This worked for me on our '73.

I have been away from home for two weeks. I get home tonight and will copy that page of the AIM that has the adjustment procedure. I will try and email it to you off line this weekend. The adjustment takes five minutes.
