Default Is starter heat wrap worth it?

I just bought a replacement starter, since my old starter began to die on me. My question is, the starter didn't start to die until I put headers on the car, making me wonder if the heat caused the problem. The headers are ceramic coated. I figured some heat wrap would be a good preventive measure, what do you guys think?

im no machanic...but i would say no. not unless the starter gets so hot that it starts melting wires internally or something.

I think this is a chronic problem on C3's. My '68 has gone through several starters in the last 15 years even though it has only been driven about 5,000 miles. I have the stock exhaust but it still gets too hot and after some summer use it eventually starts fading when it is hot. Always started but several times I wasn't sure it would. I bought a wrap for it but didn't put it on because it has a metalic thread in it and I'm afraid of an electrical short.

Nope. Get a remote solenoid. I have one my big block. My starter always turns over quite well, even in the middle of a 95 degree August day in Mississippi (with 95% humidity)

I went through 3 starters in as many months...crazy I know! I finally bought a gear reduction starter from Ecklers for a little more than a normal one from any parts store and have had no problems for over six months. BTW - I have ceramic coated headers too!

The mini starter is one possible answer since it should increase the distance from the header. If my starter goes out, thats what I'll use next.

I have the mini starter and it is no further from the headers then the stock starter. As stated earlier it is not a starter problem but a solenoid problem. Shorting out the stock solenoid and installing a cheap remote solenoid solves the problem. A cheap $10 FORD starter solenoid from the dealer will solve the problem.
I always wonder if wrapping the starter keeps heat out how about it also holding the heat in after it has had a chance to heat soak?

I tried the heat wrap when l had heat soak starter problems. Definetly does not work, waste of money. My problem was solved with a mini starter.
