Default Can't just ONE thing go smoothly?!

I'm in the middle of a front suspension rebuild, and everything I've touched has taken 3X as long as it should. Case in point, today. I'm trying to burn out the old rubber bushings. The first one takes forever, I'd burn a little, dig it out with a screwdriver, and burn some more. The second one actually caught fire and came out easily. The lower ones were much more difficult. I spent an hour on one lower arm, then threw in the towel. Decided to move on to the tie rod ends.

Of the 4 tie rod ends, none of them would budge in the sleeves. I clamped the tie rod sleeve in the vice and fought like crazy to no avail. Second towel thrown in. I called a friend who has a local shop and asked if he could finish what I started. I took the parts down to him, and carried the transmission with me so he could check it out too.

On the way how, the tranny rolls onto its side and deposits a quart of gear lube into the rear storage liner in my car.

It's times like these when I question my own sanity. :cry

Everything you stated sounds perfectly normal to me...!!!
I use this rule of thumb....."if it should take one hour to complete a task, I can safely triple that time."

Try using a hole saw to remove the A-Arm bushings. A number of Forum members have used this method.

Dayum, Shannon, sorry to hear about those issues. I was wondering about the tierod ends the other day when we were looking and talking about them. They looked like they were quit comfortable and didn't want to go anywhere. :smash:

Gee, the things I have to look forward to.

Good luck bro.

I know how you feel. I'm no electrician but tonight I went out to complete the rewiring of an old 3 switch box that was populated with dried up and freyed romex and 4-way switches where 3-ways are needed etc. etc. I earmarked an hour for the job, only to discover that when BUBBA wired it, he decided not to use any standard color for anything and wired the common line white to black in a splice half way through the circuit so I had no idea until I was forced to check continuity on every line and shock myself half sane! :banghead:

I get the same feeling - years of neglect and abuse are difficult to overcome. I feel like I am going to have to touch every system - every part.

I guess the good news is, with a finite number of parts the task will end someday.

Try this, make a list (long list) of everything that remains to be done on the car. I did this and at first I was discouraged - but later I realized that there really is an end! I am checking the list off as I complete each task. (In honesty, I've had to add a few new items now and then :cry )
