what are symtoms of a bad coil?
I'm having some problems with car missing trying to see if it might be a bad coil. What kind of symtoms would show up if it was bad . thanks [IMG][/IMG] :cry

Check your cap and rotor.....If those are good, check your plugs. I'm saying that because its cheaper to replace those than a coil.

A coil typically works or it doesn't. In rare cases it could be intermittent or only fail when it is warm. I doubt if a coil would cause a miss. Check the polarity though.. A coil hooked up backwards will give poor performance.

Many times a bad coil will first exhibit symptoms when it's hot, and engine will run fine when cold/cool, gradually, as the coil gets worse, engine will run poorly a greater % of the time.

Not trying to confuse the issue, but three years back, I had a miss when the engine was cool that went away when the engine was warmed up (the opposite of the above post). One of my mechanic buddies suggested the coil, knowing I had replaced the cap/rotor/wires sometime before and knew they were "ok". I checked the coil, noted it was obviously pretty old, so rather than test it, I just bought a new standard Delco one. Problem solved. Although I've since upgraded to Pertronix and Flamethrower coil, I learned that a weak coil can cause missing under certain conditions and shouldn't be ignored.
