Cam Question: GM 327 350HP
It was recomended to me to use this cam in my 350 L48. Specs are 222/222 with .447/.447 lift @ .05. I am more interested with low end power and torque. The cams I have been considering are Comp XE250-H and XE256-H or the Crane H-266-2. These cams have good lift with shorter duration. I am running Edelbrock RPM heads with 64cc chamber my CR is about 9.5:1.
Intake is the performer air gap and I am using Dynomax 1 5/8" headers into a 2 1/2" exhaust with Flowmasters. Rear ratio will be 3.55 w/ turbo 400 trany.
Any recomendations?

I would run with the newer cams. The old cams like the one you are talking about were OK in thier time. So much has been developed in ramp design and cam geometry that the old grinds are not as potent as the newer ones. The old cams were long on duration and short on lift. Newer ones are shorter on duration and higher lift to build cylinder pressure. That is where the power is made.

This question would be a good one for the C2 forum. There are guys there that have used this cam. To steal from Mark Twain, some of these guys are like my dad; they got smarter with age. ;)

i used several of the GM#151 cams throughout the years and was happy with them, able to run in the high 13's with it but like others said ,technology is alot better now then back then,go with something up to date.

Thanks for the replies!! I have been on the fence regarding using the XE250 or the 256XE. I think I have been pushed over the fence to the XE256. I think this cam will give me the best of both worlds.

Re: Cam Question: GM 327 350HP (KJL)
I ran the GM 151 cam in a 327 once, and I agree it was a good cam.The low end was lacking,as I had trouble smoking the tires, but mid to high end was nice. I would have to agree with running a new age cam. I read an article in CarCraft that used a Comp XE-268 in a 350 with Vortec heads. Pulled 390hp and 430 lbs of torque. If I were you I'd look at that cam.Unless you're into offroad 4X4 performance, you will run out of rpms way too soon with a smaller cam.

Re: Cam Question: GM 327 350HP (The Money Pit)
Here in Atlanta where stop and go light to light driving is the norm, low end torque should make the car fun to drive. I rarely get the opportunity to get the car over even 4000 rpm. DD2000 (with my set up) shows the XE256 pulls strong past 5000 rpm with a peak HP of 360 @ 5500 rpm and peak torque of 400 ft-lbs @ 3500 rpm. The XE250 has an awsome 390 ft-lbs of torque at 2000 rpm and a peak of 405 @ 3500rpm. The down side is the peak HP is 350 at 5000 rpm. Decisions, decisions......

Re: Cam Question: GM 327 350HP (KJL)
I have the Comp Cams XE 262 (very popular on the forum), but I have 3.70 gears with a 4 speed. My advice would be to follow whatever Ganey suggests, in this case the XE 256. He is the resident cam guru!! That should be the optimum given your gears and auto trans with stock converter.
