Smog Equipment Survey
I’m curious how many C3s still have their smog equipment since all came equipped with some combination of emission control equipment. The major devices are PCV valve, A.I.R. pump, charcoal canister, EGR valve and the catalytic converter.

Re: Smog Equipment Survey (hunt4cleanair)
Removed and trashed. The world will just have to suffer during the 3,000 to 4,000 miles I drive my car each year.
When the government requires smog equipment on thier own vehicles I'll get excited about it.

Re: Smog Equipment Survey (R. Bruno)
It was the first thing i removed from my car. I gave it all away (pump, switching solenoids, tubes running to headers & cat, airtube equipped headers, catalytic converter). I don't need that junk on my engine and the emissions testing here is a joke :)

My '76 was a bone stock L-48 with everything still attached when I got it. All of the smog stuff was trashed when the "goodies" started goin' on. :D

If you pull out your smog stuff, keep it! I looked into replacing the A.I.R. system on my '69 & was quoted prices in the $1.2K-$1.3K range. That stuff on your car will be gold some day!

Re: Smog Equipment Survey (hunt4cleanair)
I have to leave all my stuff on because of the very strict CA emission laws. But when 2006 rolls around...

All Gone and in the dumpster! (OK I lied, i still have my crankcase ventilation). All I needed to do was find a mechanic willing to pass my car for state inspection (turns out he likes muscle cars :D ). Problem Solved...And with all of it off, it's still cleaner than my Diesel!

Re: Smog Equipment Survey (hunt4cleanair)
Need to be careful about scraping that smog equipment. Here is Texas there is a little know law that says you cannot sell a car without all the emission equipment in place and working. It does not make any exemption for cars over a specific age as the "testing" law does. But I have to add that I have never seen the law enforced. Texas only has testing in specific counties, so if someone pulled the smog off a car in a non-testing county, then later sold it. Say it turns up in a smog testing county and cannot pass inspection. Could be the the buyer can come back on the seller to make them restore the emission equipment no matter what the cost???

All the smog stuff is hooked up on mine. It is a relatively stock L-82. I don't consider it to be "fast", so don't see any reason to be illegal. I like the fact that I won't have to change anything when testing starts is Austin, TX.
