Default Value of this vehicle...

Ok guys… Please help me out on this one. Here we have a 1976 L82 Corvette. Current condition is average for face value. I’m not so sure mechanically. Please take a look at the pictures provided, help me decide a value for this vehicle. (for it could be mine : ) From the owner I have gathered the following info about the vehicles history.

1976 L82 Corvette
- Second owner of 15 yrs.
- 80K miles
- Rebuilt motor at 70K
Below are items done at rebuild.
- Few performance parts
- Redone half shafts
- Redone vacuum system (the lights rise at identical time, amazing!!!)
- Suspension redone
- Brake calipers redone
- Engine squeaks tires in 2nd
- All those expensive little emblems are still on vehicle. : )

That is what I have gathered so far. I have taken pictures of the car not so perfect characteristics. For example driver side door handle doesn’t come up, door panels are torn + steering wheel. Center console is a little weathered. Lugnuts are rusted and couple MISSING on other tires. These items I consider very minor to the whole picture. My good friend Page told me to consider the hidden items, such as the overall mechanical condition. By looking at the engine and the pictures my sony mavica has provided please advise on a current value for this vehicle.

VetteSteve...

There have been quite a few discussions on the board about frame rust. To see what some are going through I really think that would be one of the first items I would look at before I bought another C-3.

Can I ask what the owner is asking? I know you are attempting to get an idea of the value, but if it is something outrageous then why bounce the question around?

The asking price is not high at all, very average. Im just seeing what value people would place on this vehicles condition. The idea of rust is a good one. Sorry the owner also said that the frame has been off body and sprayed.

4-5K ouch! How low can you go?? : ) :hat

VetteSteve...

The *Ouch!* only hurts after you buy something that is not worth it. I am rapidly catching Cali with his investment in his C-3, so don't take it wrong if you get some members give you some views that may not be what you were looking for. Everyone here does a pretty good job at looking after each one's interests.

I'm not an expert but that steering wheel and other parts are not original. Check the frame and bird cage for rust. (particularly on the fram behind rear wheels) Without knowing more... I'd say the value is $5500 but I'd over $5000.

Is that the original L82? If not, try for the 4's.

Good Luck

Thanks for all your imput. This is going to change my price a little bit. The paint is good. Its about 11 yrs old, but still in great shape. The little tach is put there because the current owner did not want to pay 300 bucks for a rebuild one. (orig is out)

Nice photography! You really got the details.

Just to clarify...the car is actually a rebuilt/built-up L48. And Vettes are not cheap down here. Very much a regional thing, I think. You should see what a $4-5K car looks like!!!

Now I'll toss it back to the forum...

I'm surprised that nobody picked up on the fact that the motor had to be rebuilt at (supposedly) 70k miles. Since it's a 210 hp automatic, it probably wasn't stretched enough to tear it up, unless the guy never changed the oil. I see enough in the pics to tell me it has not had good care.

Something isn't quite right... The fact that lugs are missing scares me. Makes me wonder what kind of care was taken and what quality work was done. I would walk on this one myself unless you really can't find anything else. This looks like it could take 1000s to bring it back to nice. Can't you find something better for a few thou more? It will pay in the end...

It's probably more like a $5k-$6k car. Around here, for $4k, you get something that barely runs.

I would not go any higher than $5,500, offer around $4,500 and go from there. Those door panels are expensive to replace, the tach needs to be fixed, that rear window looks like it needs to be replaced, and it's missing some lug nuts, so there might be other odds and ends missing too. I know that for some reason I prefer project cars, fixing and modifying is half the fun for me, and besides it gives me something to do all winter
