Posi-Trac Fluid Change?
Hey Guys, how often should I change my posi-trac fluid? I've owned the car only 1 yr. and it's kind of a darker color than normal. :steering:

:iagree: This is one of the few jobs I don't do myself--it's messy & difficult to get to, & any quick-lube kind of place will have a machine to suck the old fluid out. It's a cheap job, too--I paid $18 to have it done (I brought my own oil & posi-lube additive). You'll need to drop your spare tire carrier before you go so they can get to it.

Don't forget to add the Posi-trac additive! I know that some of the synthetics say you don't need to use it, but in my humble opinion put it in anyway!

What ever you do... DO NOT let a quick lbe place use their oil. Bad news. Most people use the GM posi oil AND the additive. I am not sure about the new synthetics...Some say it is too slick for the posi clutches to work correct. :nono:

I'm gonna disagree on the synthetic, too. Just go to your Chevy dealer and get 2 bottles of differential fluid and 1 bottle of posi additive. It worked for me, and it cleared up my clunking posi clutches!

I did mine last week for the second time and found that it is by far easier to remove the spare tire and carrier. It is amazing how much more room you have to get at the plug. I stuck a small hose in and ran it down to a drain pan. Gravity emptied the diff. in about 45 minutes. I used the GM gear lube and a bottle of the additive THIS time and no more noise. My 0.2.
