Default Ol dip stick? What the heck!!!

I just bought a chrome oil dip stick from Autozone. Says for all 69-79 SBC. Matched it up to the stock one after I got home and it is shorter and the tube is fatter. Won't fit in the block. Just wasted $7.00.

I ran into that many years ago. When the tube got chromed it gained enough diameter the it wouldn't fit in the block hole. I just took it over to my grinder on the brush end and peeled allthe chrome off the block end and it fit right in. The big thing is ensuring that the dip stick markings end up the same when in place.

No no no, you bought a dipstick for a 1992 Honda Civic being driven by a punk who wishes he has a 69 - 79 sbc... :jester

Actually, I don't shop at AutoZone, too many problems with parts that don't fit.

:iagree: AutoZone is bad. Most of there stores dont have that much in stock and there employees arn't very knowlegable. Most other big parts stores I dont have a problem with though.

actualy i buy alot of stuff at AZ and have pretty good luck...theres one right around the corner from my shop so i fing myself goin up there for alot of things...and if there is a mess up they are always willing to help by making returns real easy...
now if its something really important i DO make the drive downtown and go to NAPA or buy from the vendors...
sorry...i didnt mean to take this thread in a different direction! :jester

I will get it to work. The markings are the same for oil level. I just need to resize the end that goes into the block. No big deal but it is more than the thickness of the chrome. :smash:
