You cannot route the wires like they were with manifolds. I just pulled them out of the way on 71 and zip tied the wires away from the header tubes. It was fairly easy to do. When I changed motors I got a special set of wires to run on top of the valve covers so I did not have long wires hanging all over the place.

Get a wire loom(get them at pepboys) chrome and use that to run the wires also you need to get angled boots...instead of straight

I used Taylor wires with some of them having custom boot angels(some 45deg. and some 90s). then I took several Taylor wire ties (some 2 , some 3, some 4) and routed them neatly and pulled from the headers. They have never hit the headers since.

The stock wire routing was a dumb idea to begin with. Get new wires and run them thru some wire looms. Makes working on the engine much easier.

I installed a set of Accel 8.8 mm plug wires (w/ 90 deg boots) on my '73 small block with Dynomax ceramic-coated headers. The wires follow the stock routing with all the shielding and covers in place.

I wasn't easy, had to jack the car and remove the starter, but the end result was worth it. And judgin by the past owner, I won't have to replace those wires for another 30 years!!!

When I get home I will snap some pictures of my plug routing with my Hedman headers on my ZZ4 motor.

I used Accel wires and the stock routing. I haven't had a problem yet. I did remove the rear spark plug shields but other than that it's stock including the rest of the shielding. You can see the front wires in my sig.

I ordered the wires and loom kit from Jegs today. Maybe I will have everything together next week, I hope.

Does anyone know why they did run the wires like they did? was it part of the RF interference?
