Decals peeling off
I put new decals in my engine compartment last year [emission, air cleaner and such] and they are all starting to come up at the edges. How can I stick them back down. I thought of superglue or epoxy but maybe someone has a better way?

Super glue is the cheapest way out but I think I would just order new ones, but this time when you put them on,push them down with a bondo sgueegee. You could try doing this on the old ones but it probably wont work :seeya

I have the exact same problem, especially on the chrome air cleaner. Some brands are better than others. What we need is decals with the same sticky stuff they use on license tag year stickers.

decals is what i do everyday for a living...
you can not "sucessfully" stick them back down...buy new ones...
my guess is that you (or whoever put them on) did not properly clean the area before applying them...
you need to clean ALL residue from the surface...
i use enamel reducer...
if you dont have any of that try rubbing alcohol...
and after you clean the surface...DO NOT touch the it where the sticker is going...oils from your skin will re-contaminate the surface...
hope this helps...

If you have a friend that is an aircraft mechanic, ask him/her for some edge sealent. This is what we use to keep decals on the outside of the aircraft from peeling off at 500MPH. It works great and your decals will never peel up again.

I tried a little 5 min epoxy on the edges and stuck them back down but you can tell they have been messed with. I cleaned the area with acetone originally before I installed them but I think i'll buy some new ones and try that edge sealant. Thaks for the suggestions. :)

I don't have any problems w/ decals since I remove them. One time removed the Firebird from the hood of a new T/A on the way home from the dealership. Never too early to start mods!

first of all...use EXTREME caution with acetone! you can mess up some finishes beyond repair on contact...i know...i use agents like that every single day...
secondly...its fine with me if you do not want to take the advise from a pro...
i dont mean to sound cocky or rude...but...here goes...
i make big bucks everyday doing the EXACT same thing that you asked advice on...and i have been doing so for over 20 years...
you can goober them up with anything you want to including clear nail polish...edge sealer or anything else you want to but they will not look very good and even if they do, they wont look good for long...
there is only one correct answer and it is very simple and inexpensive...
buy new decals (their cheap)...
clean your surface correctly...
apply decals...
end of problem...
period...
i wish you luck...

Re: Decals peeling off (SIGNGUY)
:iagree: I apply alot of decals and placards to commercial aircraft everyday. The edge sealer only works if the decal is still stuck down good.Acetone will wipe off the letering off of the silk screened decals. The best thing to do is buy a new one. :seeya

New ones ordered.
these decals are made for what they are used for and will last for many years all by themselves if just applied correctly...
the main thing is a clean surface...free of any grease, oils or other contaminants...
BTW...Zip has about any decal you need and their cheap too!
