I bet your voltmeter was showing a strong charge the whole ride? Alternators make bad battery chargers, whether the battery is good or not.

If the ampmeter was showing a charger, then the alternator is fine.Check to make sure the battery cells have not run dry.Could be the battery.

Put a long slow charge on it. That should pick it up, then watch it for proper operation.

Don't leave yourself stranded. Pull the battery and have it tested. It's free! You will walk out of the store knowing that your present battery is OK, or you will install a new one. Trying to trouble shoot a system with a dead battery is not wise. When you are finally working with a charged battery, connect a volt/olhm meter to the batt connectors with the engine off. Your meter should read 11.5+ volts. Start your engine, and the meter should read 14+ volts. If it doesn't, you may have a faulty alternator. Remember, that in theory, a fully charged 12 volt battery will read 13.2 volts (2.2 volts per cell).

Remember you cant charge a battery back up by driving it around,it would take for ever to properly charged, even though you jumped it it needs a good slow charge first, then check it out, also that kills an alternator when you jump it and then not charge the battery the alts. working its azz off.

I have a new battery in my car, and if it sits too long in the cold garage,
I cannot start my car. I invested 25 bucks in a 1.5 amp trickle charger and
if you leave it on overnight, the battery comes up to a full charge.
Works for me!! :yesnod:

Because it's in that nice, sheltered battery box, even a 10-year-old battery looks practically new! Believe it or not, sitting around doing nothing is hard on a battery. Have it tested.
