Rick, it could happen, but it is a rare thing. I have a 71 4-spd and leave it in neutral while I do some tuning, etc... You may want to spend a little time on those parking brakes. I had to do that and they work MUCH better now. Less stress worrying about the what if...
Good luck :steering:

Another piece of mind thing would be to tune up your shifter! Check the bushings and shift rods for wear. Check the mounting points of the shifter for wear and finally set the netraul gate adjustment. If you still have the stock Muncie shifter in there change to a Hurst Competition Plus! They mount to the trans instead of the car's frame and are much tighter. Also check your motor mounts and trans mounts. If the engine is jumping and moving around it will bind up or move the Muncie shifter! Keep the Muncie for the the "Numbers matching freaks" when you sell it and enjoy the Hurst. :steering:

I love the look of the stock shifter. I want to keep something that looks like it when I upgrade to a T-56. I'll have to do something custom designed...but, I want to make it look stock. Maybe I'll cut up a repro shifter and use my original ball...
But, on topic. Wheel chocks are the way to go, even if you have the world's best parking brake. :smash:

Rick
I think PARANOID. I have never seen a stick jump in gear.
But it never hurts to use some kind of wheel block. But if your tuning and reving to 3-4k and it jumps in gear. Wheelie is all I can say.

I wonder if you couldn't just put the clutch to the floor (all the way so that it causes no wear) and brace it against the seat or something with a clamp.

Rick, I too would say paranoid. With the motor running, and the clutch out, try and put it into gear, I think this will ease your fears.

You'd have to push the clutch in in order for it to 'fall' into gear. If your shifter shifts correctly I wouldn't worry at all.
I had a 57 chev with an auto tranny that took off on me. That's because my elbow hit the lever at the column by the engine (and I hadn't installed the little lock plate). Can't happen that way with a manual.
