71 rear struts....more info?
Hey all,
I stopped by a local shop that is supposed to know vettes and they have told
me that the mild bend on the rear struts on my vette are "normal", i.e. there's nothing wrong with the car?
So what's the right answer on a 71, LS-5? Just when I was ready to rip into it. They have Fireston align it for $ 55 and be done with it. :(
Any ideas again?
Thanks
CC

They certainly did not come from the factory this way. No it is not normal. Does it work? I guess so. If you were to get new ones they would be straight. It is a Bubba fix

The bend was not from the factory. It's probably 'normal' because so many alignment shops bend them when they can no longer get enough adjustement from the cams to align the rear. Of course the best thing to do is go through everything back there. But if you just want to drive it, it will probably be just fine with just an alignment for now. You could always get the alignment and start using the car. Then when you get time and resources replace or rebuild a little at a time.

Larry,
Excellent! :yesnod:
Kind of what I thought. The shop is assuming this is correct because they see it so often. Guess they're not experts then! :p:
I will take the vette to another shop when the tricky jobs come up!
Thanks again guys
