Dexron III is the only Dexron fluid available at the auto parts stores. Dexron III is safe for all Transmissions requiring Dexron x transmission fluids including Powerglide, TH350, TH400, 700R4, etc.

:iagree:
I read that you can improve the firmness of shifts on a TH350 or TH400 by using Ford (Type F) ATF. It is supposed to be a little less slippery than Dextron. I believe that B&M Trickshift ATF which is "For all Automatic Transmissions" is nothing but Synthetic Type F.
I tried Type F in my TH400 and it has worked faultlessly and gives much firmer shifts, without installing a shift kit.

Ummm...if I was in Texas where I know I can get a replacement tranny for under $200, I'd try Type F. If I was in France where a TH350 is $$$, no way. Use Dexron III. It will be fine. I don't think you can even buy Dexron II any more.
