Bet you never found one of these during resto ...
This happened a while back. I had just pulled the rear clip off of the '70
rolling chassis. I was doing some snooping around various parts of the frame -
evaluating how much work it would be to 'get her done'.
-
Well, a long thin piece of some thing laying up in front of the differential.
You know - that pocket in the crossmember wher TONS of crap collect.
-
This piece was very light (weight), long and thin. I immediately thought
taht it was a piece of fiberglass that was cut off or left over from body
work that had been done. Huh. I picked it up and broke it with my hands.
-
Funny: It didn't quite have the strength of fiberglass, and it seemed to snap
with easy (very dry).
-
Now, I thought to myself: "WTF is this ?"
-
I looked down and after a moment realized what it was:
-
Some furry creature lost his leg !!
squirrel jerky !!
:lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:
:seeya

 I might restore my car one day down the road, and one thing I hope not to find is that. Besides, the whole time I've had the car, I've nearly died a few times trying not to hit roadkill

Good god man...that's gross .
Whenever I pulled my rear crossmember to change rear ends I discovered two lemon heads and some styrophome blocks inside the rear crossmember. Must have been a factory option because my 'Vette is a one owner car.

Some stoner on the line must have dropped his cotton mouth cure down in there.

It struck me as odd because that was the first time that the crossmember had ever been removed.

I started my engine one day, waited for it to warm up to operating temperature, and crawled underneath to measure the voltage of the recently installed O2 sensor.
Well, about 15 seconds later, I hear a *WHAM* and see parts of something falling all around my head! I thought the engine was about to blow right above my head! My friend who was helping shut the engine down and I crawled back out.
I looked in the engine bay and saw no damage, but red fluid all over. I thought, "There's no red fluid in my car." And it was then that I noticed all the fur floating around.
Turns out that a squirrel had decided that the radiator shroud was a nice warm place to stay the night. Then when the radiator got too hot, it ran away from the radiator...right into the fan!
:U
I had to use a pressure washer on low setting to remove all the chunks and fur from the engine bay and car. The fan threw the carcass up and over the car and it landed 15-20 feet behind the car.
Ew. :U

That's worse than mine, but I did find a wasps nest underneath the passenger side dashboard. A little bug spray, the shop vac, and they were gone

Found styrofoam blocks in my crossmember when I had it out. I wonder if the NCRS checks to see if the blocks are there, as they are obviously factory installed :) , at least on '76s in Pennsylvania.

I have worked on these things for 30 years and you wouldnt believe the things that I have found. You name it, I have found it, including the rodent parts. But how about the creatures that chase those resident rodents. My worker was pulling a set of seatcovers off of a 62, and was reaching up under the cover to release the seat bottom clips. He was spending a lot of extra time, so I told him just to rip them off. They were not savable anyway. So he gave it a big jerk and off it came. Laying there on the foam under that seatcover, in a cozy little nest, was a nice two feet long snake. Right there where he had his hands. He almost $#!%. Be carefull, you never know what you might be sitting on.

Re: Bet you never found one of these during resto ... (wombvette)
Ok....Somebody had to ask this :jester , was the snake an option in 62, or was that standard equipment? :jester When I first got my car and was cleaning out the back deck, I found a pair of leather lace up boots that had to be at least a size nine, huge I tell ya. Anyway a week or so later I took the car into the muffler shop to see if they would honor a guarantee for some work on an order I found in the glove box. The guy at the counter says to me..I recognize that car...it used to belong to a 6ft cross dressing black guy. I swear this is true...Now...after reading these posts...I don't know just how much more exploring I want to do.... Just owning one is an adventure isn't it.?
