Egg Crate Alternative...... Ideas?
I've been thinking for a long time that I wanted to replace the egg crate side grills with something a little different. I love the 69 style, but I don't want my 71 to be a 69 poser. With everything else that's being done to it, it sorta looks like a shark on steroids anyway. Thought maybe I'd make something that looked a little closer to shark gills.
All ideas welcome! Please, easy on the little emoticon that pukes, my feelings are sorta sensitive. :lolg: Seriously, it's not a question of whether or not to do it, I'm just shopping for ides on how to do it.
Dave

Build some horizontal ribs like the C5's have.
Let me know if you would like to sell the old egg crates.

Todd - I'll get back to you on the eggcrates after I see how my glass butchering turns out.
Terry - Come-on man, that would be wayyyyyyyy too easy. Besides, the Stahl headers on this 502 is going to need an escape for lots of hot air. Speaking of "hot air", You'll get exposed to plenty from me when I figure how to do this little project. :D As usual, I'll document the glass dust for anyone interest.

Markus_P (in Austria) did something like this - and I've been thinking, too.
So, my ideas stay locked up for now. I found Markus_P's post on his body mods,
but the pics of the side fins he did weren't there. Maybe he will chime in here.
If not - mail him and ask.

How about using a piece of that white formica with the little gold spots in it? :jester
Actually, I immediately thought of the gills on a 95/96. Probably and easy changeover.

Dave,
With a 502 in that bad boy, 4 chrome (or jet hot sterling) pipes coming out through the fender then down the side and into a 4 into 1 side pipe sounds like an off the wall idea. Custom header and pipe work required to connect to Hooker sidepipes.
One you located the pipes, you could glass in four individually flared holes four the pipes to pass through.
You seemed to want to be challenged! :banghead: :banghead: :D

Dave - I have not seen what Markus did on his, so I'll hope to hear from him. Holding your design card close to your chest huh? I understand, I've got a headlight project in the closet too.
Larry - The olny left over formica I have is that putrid avacado color. :U I do have a 2x8 laying around that might work. :lolg: As for the 95, I've got one sitting next to the 71 so it would be easy to copy. It just isn't quite radical enough for the RT project. ;)
Robert - Same problem as the 69. I don't want my car to have an identity crisis. :D
Glen - Sounds cool, but I just don't have the heart to trash the Stahl headers with nearly a grand invested. Hmmmmm , shades of the Mako in that pipe design. Oh well, back to the drawing board. :seeya
