Why is my '77 beeping at me?
Just driving to work, no problems till she just started beeping- like a when an idiot light comes on. I'd never heard it before- all gauges were fine, volts, temp normal, no lights on the dash- but I pulled over right after the beeping stopped and checked oil & tranny fluid, etc.
Couldn't find a durn thing wrong. Any ideas, anyone? I had no idea the vette even had some type of warning system....

'77 Corvettes don't beep. They have a seatbelt alrm, but I wouldn't call that a beep. Do you have an aftermarket stereo or alarm (or any other modern stuff)?

Maybe a digital watch slipped down between the seats and what you heard was it's alarm :yesnod:
honestly...I have no clue!

Re: Why is my '77 beeping at me? (Gotta Fix my '76)
Yeah I am still confused.
1) No aftermarket stereo or alarm.
2) Didn't sound like the door buzzer- that would be a constant buzz, I think.
3) I don't think it was loud enough for the stock alarm. I've never actually heard the alarm- but if that was it, it's pretty sad! That and it came on after 1/2 hour of driving.... :-)
4) Nuttin under the seats!
Well I am freaked. It really sounded like it was comming from the dash. Just a steady "beep beep beep" for a couple of minutes then gone.

That happened to me in my 90 firebird one time. I started hearing this beeping noise that would last for about 10 seconds then it would stop. This would happen when I was stopped, going fast, slow and just about any other time. I would try and listen to see where the sound was coming from and it sounded like it was coming from the speakers. But it's hard to tell for sure because the sound bounces around in the closed car.
After a couple weeks of this I found the problem..... I had taken a friend home from work and he dropped his pager between the seats. I felt really stupid. :bb
I have a 77 and as far as I know it doesn't make any weird or unidentifiable beeping noises.

My guess is a battery-powered device attached to either the car alarm or car stereo (or the lost digital watch, pager, cell phone...).
My choke relay went bad and started buzzing whenever the car was on. It is a square green device with 2-3 wires attached to base. Situated under the shift console on left side.

My key alarm is worn out and beeps, rather than buzzes, if I plug it in. It is a black box under the dash attached to the side of the fuse box.

The radio is dead, and I've tore out the seats looking for any pagers or cell phones- nothing! I think it definately came from the vette- it had a twinge in the sound that you'd associate with an old car beepin' sound, I guess. :-)
But it wasn't the door buzzer or the seat belt buzzer..
Man, I'm befuddled.
