Air cleaner to hood clearance
I am sure this has been gone over more then a few times, but I see alot of people with Performer of Performer RPM manifolds on there C3s. I have an 1980 with a regular Preformer and have no hood clearance for a nice flowing air cleaner, how are you guys all doing it. High rise hoods or special air cleaners? Let me know the detailed secrets my friends... THANX

I have the Performer and a 3 inch filter. It closes is all I know, but would like to try a 4 inch filter.

I run a GM 14" chrome filter with the 3" element with the RPM Q-Jet intake on mine with the stock hood. Tried a 4" element with the Performer intake, but it had minor contact with the hood. When in doubt, get the playdough out.

Re: Air cleaner to hood clearance (ragingbull)
I have a Performer on my '77 and a 4 inch filter will just fit with a low profile nut, but will make slight contact with the hood (I have no hood insulation). I went with a 3 inch filter.
