Any info.,articles, or suggestions on installing a 200-R4 tranny in a C3 Vette?
I am thinking about installing a 200-R4 transmission in my '73 Vette. The thought of having an overdrive has been on my mind lately. Does anyone have any information, articles, or suggestions on this? I notice alot of you are running 700-R4s, any particular reason for that over the 200-R4? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Yes, I have some advice...Do it!!!! ill try to find some archived info for you. Meanwhile if you have any specific questions ill be glad to take a stab at em. In my opinion the 2004R is an overall better swap choice than the 700R4. Many reasons...soon to follow.

Advantages of the 2004R over 700R4 include but not limited to:
Lighter overall weight and smaller case dimentions for better fit in tunnel.
Lighter internals robbing less power from rear wheels.
Closer 1st to 2nd gear ratios for less rpm drop in shifting.
Full throttle 3-4 upshift and full throttle 4th gear hold.
700 has inherrant problem with 3-4 clutch packs.
More of a direct bolt in due to similar dimentions as TH400. if yur swapping from 400, the stock crossmember will work in the stock location with no mods.
Weakest link on the 200 is the input shaft. It can handle up to 500ftlbs Tq. More than that you can get a billit input shaft.
Only advantage of the 700 is the lower 1st gear. Not nessisarly an advantage when you consider the longer gap between 1st and 2nd ratios.
Thats my opinion. Ive been running my 200 for about two years now. I drive it hard and other than a few programing issues earlier on, have had no problems with it.
