I restored a Ford 390 Torino GT a while back. Boy could that thing run with that motor. Vette is still my favorite though

'68 or '69 Shelby GT-500 Mustang has always been something I wanted to have. Not pay for... just have.

:iagree: with gb4622, Vettes rule, everything else is a distant second. Now that we've set our priorities straight, the classic Shelby Mustangs are fine too.

If this link works this is like my first car when I was 16. I got my car in 1984 and wasn`t very thrilled. The more I kept the car the more I liked it. Mine was black and gathered comments all the time. Sometimes I wish I had it back.

70-71 'Cuda 4-speed, In my dreams I'd have a Hemi, but I could settle for a 440BB or an AAR 340SB.

Every car I've ever owned was GM,but if I had to deviate I wouldn't fight too hard if someone gave me a 70 Cuda.

In 1969 I bought my first new car, it was a Dodge Dart, 340 4 speed. I wanted a 'vette, but could not afford a 'vette. The Dart was a bad mammy jammer, and would hand with any of the 60's muscle cars through the 1/4 mile.
Later I put 3x2's on it and it really screamed! I ran a 13.67 on redline poly-glass tires, on it. Great performing car, but by the time it had 40K on it, I had worn it out! Traded it for a Pontiac Ventura in 1973 (worst car I ever owned.) By that time, I was married and had a child and my wife objected to driving a 4 speed with no power anything and a clutch that was less than easy to push in.

Your choices are few when so many awesome cars were produced during the Muscle Car Era. I would never turn my nose up to a Cuda or an AMX or, well, the list goes on. In the spirit of Dare to be Different..... how about this?

I've always played with Chevrolet products, mainly because I have so many Chevy parts laying around and I have a pretty decent handle on what works and what doesn't...

Still, I've always wanted to pick up a 1969½ Dodge Super Bee or Plymouth Road Runner with the 440 3x2 barrel engine. I always thought those were pretty neat cars... Lift off fiberglass hood... Black wheels... No frills interior... Very cool in my book. One of these days I'll have to track down a nice example to put in the garage.

Steve,

I had a buddy in high school who always drove his mom's Dodge Dart 340/automatic. As you mentioned, it was a really quick car and gave quite a few of the local "hot rods" fits. Green paint with a black bench seat interior and column mounted gear selector... It was the definition of "sleeper".

Mac,

Good choice! There is a restorable 1969 AMX with a 390/4 speed in a salvage yard ten miles from my home. I've had thoughts of picking it up and putting it in storage (before its condition gets any worse) for a project at some point down the road... I keep hearing how it is nearly impossible to get vintage AMC parts these days which is the main reason I haven't done anything to this point.

Neat looking cars though!

Regards,

what, anything non-American can't be a sports car? :skep:

classic: i would love to own an old Porche 356 or 911, an E-type Jag, or anything from Lotus

current: can't think of one domestic sports car worth owning  is there any other than Corvette?

I hate Mopars. Can't turn, can't stop. They had some power, but that doesn't seem like the ultimate fun. Fords never had anything with power. Mustangs aren't all that good. The Pantera is a cool car though. I'll give them that. So Mopar is at the bottom, with Ford above that. I voted for AMC because they are more original to own. The only thing I like about GM is that they have the Corvette. There aren't too many neat cars out there really. Too many of them rust or have subframes/unibodies.
