Default Anyone running L98 Aluminum cylinder heads ?

I was talking to an engine builder about my combination and I need some more compression. I was giving thought to a set of 58cc aluminum cylinder heads, with flat top pistons. I am running an original LT-1 aolid cam. Am curious to hear thoughts from people running these heads.

I'm running the 86 version. None D-Port. No problem, so far. Raises compression appr. 1 point.

Are these angle plug or straight plug heads ? Any exhaust header clearance problems ? What are you using for valve springs and hardware.

Thanks

Angled plugs with Dynomax headers. No problem with clearance. I choose Chevy HD spings and Manley valves. I did not CNC the heads, but wish I would have. Factory castings are very rough. All in all a very good light weight head performance product.

Note: You will probably have to cut the front springs after installation. My front end raised two inches.

I have these heads on my car. They are angle plugs and I am using Super Comp Headers.I have the stock pistons and crank in the engine. The heads are definiatly good for a compression bump. Everything runs well and I eliminated about 40 pounds from the front of the car. (not sure if it was 40 per head or for both, may have been per head  ) The only thing I used to really bump power up was a lunati cam and RPM intake. I got the head and intake for 500 bucks. The cam was another 120 bucks and I did all the work. With that combo I dynoed 285 RWHP and have run 12.6 @ 107 in the 1/4 mile (dont forget, I have some 4.11s and a bunch of other cheap little tricks to get this time :)). That is not to shabby considering how inexpensive these heads were.

You can locate them all the time in the C-4 parts for sell section. I bought mine from one of the members. For high r's you will need to send them off to be CNC'ed and add beefer springs. Stock flow rates are lower than vortex heads.

If I am not mistaken these are the same heads that are run on the ZZ4 crate motor. Is their much if a difference between the 86-88 and 88 on versions (aside from valve cover and d port exhaust ?)

I think you are right, even though they are a different part number. The part number for the heads on the ZZ4 is 12556463. I would look at Scoggin-Dickey catalog (http://www.sdpc2000.com). I think they also have a CNC milled version that may flow a little better for higher RPM power.

Lingefelter uses these heads a lot for high-torque street engines. Good aluminum head for the money.

Yes they are ZZ-4 heads. Only one year had round port exhaust, the rest are d-port. The other change was done to the center intake bolts. All are center bolt valve covers.

Mine came straight off a zz4. The guy was going to install a supercharger and as you know, these are not the heads for that :smash:
