Insurance Question for my FLA Brethren...
We have discussed insurance for our vettes (I'm with Hagerty, $129/yr), but what insurance do you use for your daily driver? I'm sick of getting hammered here (in Calif. my YEARLY premium was $550 for full coverage...FLA = $600 for 6 mo  !!!).
I'm 40 yrs. old, drive a freaking mini-van, no tickets, no claims, no accidents.
Who do you use and how much do you pay?
Thanks in advance,
D. Ocean

We are about the same age and fortunately have the same good driving record.
3 drivers in my household--myself, my wife and my mom. 25/50/50 coverage. Comp and collision only on the 2002 Caravan:
2002 Caravan $456.10
1988 Chevrolet $177.60
1995 Olds $230.30
Here are my 6 MONTH Geico premiums. Florida insurance rates are  , especially here in SOFLA.
PS-1971 Corvette, agreed value with Hagerty ONE YEAR $149

Man...that suks...
I have to have 100/300 because of my properties...don't want some no-insurance holding, rusty Toyota driving, non-bathing, non-English speaking quasi-citizen owning my houses because I injured them in an accident.
I'm with Geico, too as they are the lowest-to-date, but I know there are some "premium" companies out there (i.e. AIG) that will be less...I have yet to identify them, hence this post.
I am working with a State Assemblyman on introducing a bill as we had in Calif. - NO INSURANCE = NO CAR! If you are pulled over by "the man" and can't produce valid & verifiable insurance documents, your car is impounded ON THE SPOT. That will get the attention of the un-insured dirtbags who are responsible for our high bills.
Don't you just f-ing hate driving down the street and seeing some scumbag in a rat-trap POS who you KNOW is paying $0/yr. insurance while you're paying $1200/yr.?:mad
Thanks for listening,

Re: Insurance Question for my FLA Brethren... (74FLCONV)
I have three vehicles with Gieco (2 trucks and a Harley). I pay ~$800/yr for the trucks (both of 'em) and ~$200/yr for the bike. I'm 30 (at least until Sunday!) with onnly one ticket...EVER and no accidents!
I think we get hammered here in FL simply because of the older folks on the road. Insurance companies know that we have some terrible drivers on the road (especially this time of year). :banghead:

Re: Insurance Question for my FLA Brethren... (Mystery Machine)
Happy Birthday.
You pay $800 TOTAL for two trucks? Is this full coverage? Newer vehicles? Damn, I gotta have a talk with Geico. Maybe rates are lower in Cocoa Beach.
Well...I think the old folks contribute to our insurance woes by causing accidents (it seems one of them drives into a canal or through the front of the Post Office every week) but their insurance is a lot cheaper than ours!. I believe FL rates are so high due to the inordinate ratio of uninsured driver's.
From what I have read, it is estimated that 50%, yes, FIFTY PERCENT  of driver's in Miami-Dade County are uninsured. Who pays to cover the uninsured? Me and you (escpecially ME)!
If the law is changed and police start impounding uninsured cars, you can bet things will change. Whether or not it reduces our insurance rates is yet to be seen, but I will sleep a lot better knowing that my car won't be hit by some uninsured loser.

$1500 for FIVE vehicles? That's $300 each! I'll take that any day.
Unfortunately, State Farm doesn't write policies here.

I feel the entire auto insurance scam is well beyond outta control has been for many a decade now.....I think the Feds need pass uniform coverage requirements, and a law that rates do not vary by locations within the contintental US....
Rates for coverage should not vary by age, either....
Rates for coverage should follow the DRIVER, and not the damn car....who can drive more than one car at a freaking TIME!!!
and just what sort of somehow incalcuable chance of a car actually being stolen and so on could be used in a crime or something....what part of any of that stupid small risk is such the cost may be what?? ten bux/year per car??? IF that???
frankly, auto insurance is a scam,...states demand it, and companies rape the customers who have no choice......
I think i'ts time to quit the BS of surcharging for tickets also...unless they are felonies.....and a felony in say speeding....anything over say 100 mph???
but that's on freeways......let someone figger out the exact details...but I think you all know what I think makes sense....

Don't get me started on insurance. I amd 48 and have Geico also. 300K/300K $500 deductibles on comp/collision.
2000 Mercury Villager - $900 per year
2000 Camaro SS - $1050 per year
1986 Olds Cutlass - $1800 per year (this is the one my 17 year old son drives)
The whole thing pisses me off. Don't even get me started on the "hurricane deductible". :mad

State farm. I'm 31 and pay $56 a month full coverage on a 1979 Corvette and 1992 Camaro. Declared value on the Vette is $9000. No tickets or accidents...
