Default Q. re Selling Corvette Parts on EBay

I have bought Corvette parts in recent times but not sold. Last evening I made an attempt to sell. It seems that I cannot do so as in addition to my credit card number, they now seem to want details related to my personal chequing account. As I have not provided that - and I will not - it appears that I am shut out of selling. I can still bid but no selling. Anyone else run into this roadblock?

They do want your credit card number so that they can get their fees, but there isn't any reason for them to have checking account info. They don't have mine.

I've bought and sold a bunch of parts on EBAY. I registered 4 or so years ago. Don't remember them needing checking account info...just the credit card stuff so they can charge their percentage and listing fee.

I do know that I recently registered for "Paypal", both to use it to buy, and to accept it for sales. With Paypal, you do have to give the checking info. Could you be getting the two confused? Chuck

Paul,
I have been registered and selling on ebay for a couple of years.

I am sure I did not give them my checking account mumber. That must be something new. I would not give that info. to them.

They do have my credit card number as does a dozen travel.com's. I make a lot of reservations for hotels and rentals cars. None of them have asked for a checking account number.

I agree with Chuck - seem to recall that checking account was needed for PayPal.
Since then, I believe that EBay has acquired Paypal - so they may be forcing
new registrants to use the Paypal service ?? Not sure ??

I have both an EBay and a PayPal account. In fact I transmitted funds via PayPal last night with no problem. And receipt was confirmed. But on PayPal I am listed as "unverified." ??? Despite the fact they have my credit card number with a reasonable credit limit. And Ebay will simply not let me in to sell. To register as a seller they want bank, bank account, branch location and branch transit number. I don't think so Tim!! I will go with the credit card as there is some protection on scam limits but I sure do not want my personal chequing account info out there in the internet ether. And the most annoying thing is that there is no address on EBay to make an enquiry! They shift you to user forums where the misinformed misinform the misinformed. Unlike the C3 Forum of course ;) .

That's irritating.
Looks like you are correct according to thier rules section: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/seller_account.html

I just listed some a couple weeks ago and they didn't ask me to input any extra info. I'm not sure what I'll do if they ask.

Aw shucks! Don't be paranoid. After all, every time you write a cheque you're handing someone the exact same information! And how many of you pay insurance via a monthly draft from your bank account? Gee whiz, that's the way Hagerty does it.

They have all my info, and so far it's been a seamless transfer of money...in both directions.

If I remember unverified with paypal has to do with your address. You have to verify that and then you'll be a verified (or verified premier if you want to receive money) member, could be wrong but that's what i think it is.

I can sell stuff on ebay and I never gave info on a checking account, just my credit card.

I just listed stuff last night and didn't have to give any checking info :skep: But I've been a member for years and I'm also a PayPal premier member. But I agree that even though it kinda freaks me out to give that stuff out, as was said before, you give the info out to strangers every-time you pay a bill or stick a check in the mailbox. If somebody wants to get the info, they will :banghead:
On a side note, I did hear that someone is emailing ebay members asking for more personal info, passwords, account numbers. And THAT person is bogus so beware

That's not a bad idea. I just tried again and they still want my PCA info. No way. My pension and payroll cheques roll into there every month and I do not need a sophisticated hacker getting that information. MY VISA Gold Card has theft protection included so I feel safe with that. But not with my personal accounts. Paranoia?? I suppose so.

I'm pretty sure that with just your account number and bank routing number they can deposit, but not withdraw. You might check with your bank.

Perhaps. It is not clear. The text suggests that once Ebay has the info then it game over in terms of privacy.

"Paying Your eBay Seller Fees
There are three different ways to pay your eBay fees:

eBay Direct Pay: eBay Direct Pay is the easiest and most convenient way to make payment on your eBay account. Simply provide eBay with your checking account number and bank routing number and eBay will automatically deduct your account for your monthly invoice amount. Once you have signed-up for eBay Direct Pay, your bank account will be debited on a fixed day of the month dependent on your billing cycle. To sign up for eBay Direct Pay or update your current checking account information, just complete this safe and easy form. This option is only available to users billed in US dollars with bank accounts in the United States."

"Just make one up... Put a few funny numbers in there..."

:smash:

After you give them your checking account # they make 2 small deposits and you have to confirm the amount they deposited to be verified! Like somebody already said every time you use a check that info is redily available!
I wouldn't worry about it!

I'm pretty sure that with just your account number and bank routing number they can deposit, but not withdraw. You might check with your bank.
All you need are the numbers at the bottom of the check.
Once you have those, you can pretty much do anything (to or from).
I belive that the transactions must be sent through a financial clearing house
to make it's way from one institution to another. It would take a very
sophisticated hacker to pull this one off - and if so - would he really be
shooting for someones personal checking account? No way.

I do both my mortgage and Discover Card payment with "smart checks".
You simply give them the numbers and away they go (at your command).
The thing here is that electronic transfers are well documented between two
businesses.

I'm not trying to make anyone paranoid - quite the opposite.

I like the idea about a second account - if you can get a no-minimum
fee-free account.
    :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:

My wife used to have her own checking account. If she still had it, this is what I would use.
