Front springs and Rear spring which should I buy?
Hello, Looking to buy some new springs (among other things)for the front and a new Fiberglass one for the back.Iam not sure which ones I want I would like to have my car lowered like a inch or so.I plan on buying from Mid America should I be looking at the 460lbs(grandtouring) or 550lbs(street/slalom) for the front? On the back Iam also confused I know a lot of it has to do with what kind of ride I want.I don't know I just want to go down the road without my teeth falling out.Any advice on this would be great Thanks.Dale

Im using the 460lb coils in the front along with a 340lb TRW composite in the rear. Polygraphite bushings throughout and Bilstien shocks. Nice ride. Nice handling. Much better than stock. The sig pic shows the ride height. The front was left alone. The rear was lowered 2". 235/60-15 tires.

If ride height is a concern. Be cautious.
I ordered my fiberglass spring from Zip (#SU694 / TRW). The ride height increased.
After a follow up call to them I was told that the stiffer the spring, the lower the ride height. Mine was the softest of the lot. I have just lived with it.
Be sure to communicate your ride height concerns with the people that sell the spring to ya!!

Re: Front springs and Rear spring which should I buy? (78Vette-SA)
Yes, 78Vette-SA, that is what I'd get also, but it is $1500 and that is a little steep, but I could afford it. I don't think I could handle the install myself though, not at this stage. I'll put that on my next Vette though. I'm going with 550/360 from VBP because I want the little stiffer ride and to lower the car a bit for the 17's I'll be putting on later. The kit also includes the Smart Struts, so it sounds like a better package. I also read about a lot of guys cutting a coil off of their 460's to lower the car, also basically turns the spring into a 550, so one might as well get the 550s and save theirself some work.

I've got the 460's on the front of mine (Uncut) and the ride height ended up right where I wanted it. It's lower than the stock srings.
Right now on the rear of my 78 I have a repro stock 9leaf spring (Big curve). I like the ride for Sunday cruises with the wife.
Next one though will either have a C4 suspension on it or the VBP System.

I plan on buying the same package from Vettebrakes and installing on my 74.
I will be looking to see how you like it on yours when you are done.

It depend on the way you're gonna drive her. Two words in Maine:
Frost Heaves.
As you noted, your dentist will like the stiffest spring, but a soft one may be
just as bad, if it bottoms out on bumps. My 9leaf steel spring (old) used to bottom out. Ouch.
I have been reading lately in a couple of omy resto books, regarding springs.
They recommend for a comfortable ride and excellent handling, to go with
the stock spring rate, and add or increase the sway bars. This will decrease
body roll on corners and help maintain camber - thus keeping the tires where
they belong - on the pavement.
Something like these would do you nice with stock (or the next notch up) springs:
