Default Cruise control surges on 82, why ??

The cruise on my friends 82 seem to surge. You can set the speed but it creeps downwards by about 3-5mph and then plays catch-up over and over. What might be causing this. TIA.

I don't know if your CC transducer is the same as the one on my '77, but that's exactly what my first transducer was doing about a year before it just stopped working all together.

I replaced the transducer (I also replaced the actuator) and the CC was dead on for several years. Now, it can't seem to hold a steady speed unless it's on level ground (speeds up down hill; slows down up hill  ).

This is typical of a dirty transducer. These things are not rocket science so don't hesitate to take the face off and clean the rotating magnetic disc and blow out the vacuum venturi tube....brass tube on the right side. Don't remove the venturi fitting as you will damage it, just blow it out.

Mine on the '81 just goes faster and faster. Where is the face and the tubing and the related things for the CC located?
Thanks,
Brian :steering:

I used my CC once, and that was accidentally. The car started accelerating like crazy! Since then, I've removed much of the system. One less piece of crap under the hood.

Where the heck am I supposed to put my right foot if it's not on the accelerator pedal anyway? :auto:

Well I have to log in on your sides...my 78 cruise control hasn't worked correctly since I got it in 93! And, I've replaced the transducer and it still couldn't get it right. The shop manual has a trouble shooting section...but it hasn't helped either...sounds like there is no clear cut solution.
