Take a look at this - http://www.defi-shop.com/product/vsd/vsd_top.htm
They were planning one that had mph readout as opposed to kph readout - they may have done that by now - these can be controlled by a sensor placed in place of the speedo cable connection at the tranny.
Such a sensor can be had here - http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Spe...eedometer.html
I thought of doing one of these by recessing the unit in the driver side dash speaker opening - i think it could be done quite easily - would be cool if someone tried it.

Was anyone able to find a price for the display or the VSS? I wonder which one of the VSS units is the right one for my TH400, I'd love to have the Headsup speed and rpm. If it wasn't a fortune I'd order it tomorrow!

I did some research about that same thing about a year ago. The GM cars with a real heads-up display have a coating in between the layers of the windshield to keep down "ghosting". (Seeing double images, one off the front side of the glass and one off the back.) I don't think it can really be done right without a windshield that isn't manufactured. :nonod:

Out of curiosity, I did a search and found a retailer selling them for $170.
Here's the link.
Cheap enough that someone may be able to give it a go. There are also thin films that you can put on the windshield (maybe just on the area where the image is projected) that is polarized and would decrease the reflection from the outer edge of glass. I have them at work in our viewing rooms.

Everybody knows these foils which are used for tinting the windows.
Same foil, but clear.
It wasn´t that expensive too. I´ll do a search, maybe I´ll find it again.
Only requirement was an electronic speedometer, that was the reason why I havn´t realized it yet. I´m sure there´s a solution for this.
Would be way

You can actually use it with a pass through type speedometer sending unit. Such as the VSS for fuel injection. I got one for my EFI conversion and I know that you can get them from Summit or Jegs for around $80. Of course you could also find them in many GM junkers. Basically any GM car with a mechanical speedo and fuel injection. :)
My wife gave me the big NO on this one. :D:D

I was just thinking about this yesterday too, and did some research.. you can even build your own. As Phoenix mentioned, you can get the pass-through speedo cable type adapter. I don't know that some GM vehicles used it (my '82 has a mechanical speedo but there's an optical VSS sensor on the back for the fuel injection) but I think you can find it from Painless Wiring also.
