I would like to install a serpentine belt system on my '72. Does anyone make a system for this application?? I can't seem to remember if we have "short" or "long" water pumps?? Anyway, I would like one that includes the alternator, PS Pump, and A/C. I saw one recently but couldn't find the owner of the car....looked cool!! Any tips or leads??

BTW: Got the Dual Spal fans in today, these things look really great. I will install later this week!!!

Funny every one wants the serpentine belts. When I built the 66 with an 89 setup I purposely removed the serpentine system and reinstalled the old belts. I have been stranded by those things too many times, where I could just cut a belt if the AC compressor locked up, and get home on the water pump and alternator.

I built my own serpentine system. Of course, I have a lathe that helps a lot. It was a lot of fun cutting and rewelding pulleys to get everything just right (well, almost just right :) ). I need to true up one pulley a little bit, but it works great. The reason I had to do this is that I re-did my AC system, and put in a compressor with serpentine. Also, I was tire of having to remove my alternator to put in power steering fluid. :mad

GM has a kit. PN 12497698 GM list it for 895 and I'v found it at gmdirect for 626.50. Its a great deal on all the parts you get with it.

ALL the parts you need come from a say '88 vette, everything fits nicely, saves compressor weight, and mounting bracket weight, water pump too...
must knock 80 lbs weight off front of car....use '72 alternator, fits fine...
I did an air pump eliminator kit, swung alternator more vertical, and used a shorter belt....everything you need including a serp pulley should be easily obtained from a junkyard,.....you may be able to even get OEM GM brackets per part # have the guy look them up...go to a vette meet with lotsa parts guys, they have the whole thing....

I'm using March serpentine conversion. It's top quality and the adjusting the belt is sooo easy with this set up. You can always keep a spare belt in the car, just in case.
