Exhaust hose to vent out the garage -what do you use
Gentlemen,
One time when I had my 74 worked on, they (the Goodyear place near my home at the time) hooked up a hose to the tailpipes and routed the exhaust out of the shop. It was amazing - you could hear the engine run and carry on a conversation. I suppose this is a great tool for diagnosing those annoying noises without the exhaust drowning out everything.
And, of course, we don't want to die nor freeze our tutu's off, right?
So I've been checking around for 2.5" heater hose to no avail. I've seen the exhaust hose in the Eastwood catalog, but jeeeez it's expensive at around 100 bucks or so for the hose. The guys at the Goodyear place said their hose cost about 100 bucks, so I suppose that's where they got it.
So what do you guys do?

I wanted to get the same stuff and found the prices pretty high from Eastwood and other sources. I went to the local ACE hardware store and bought some white pvc pipe , each piece is about 5 feet long, just right to go from the car and under the garage door, works for me! They also sell flexible downspout extenders that are to hook up to your gutters, it would work too. Good luck!

Here is a place that sells it - not sure what Eastwood sells yo ufor $100 -
but there are lengths of 2.5 " hose here for about $50.
http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/TTW120.html
I also see it for sale at my local independent car parts retailer. (Robbins Auto)
I recall seeing kits for about $50.
Alternatively, you could get some flexible exhaust pipe and route it out.
It seems to me that the little trap doors that they sell above are worth as
much as the hose itself.

I just started on the same endeavor. I bought a 4" dryer vent, a 4" PVC Y pipe and 2 8' long 4" aluminized flexible hoses. I will be installing it this weekend. Only around $25 bucks in parts, just have to figure out how to reduce 4" to 2 " for the pipes, maybe a hose clamp. Other than that should work the same, just probably not as quite.

hold up to high heat. It might be Ok for short runs - but not fully warm (IMO).
You might consider a PVC reducer 4"-2" pipe - attached to a short section
of metal pipe that fits over your tips.

I picked up a broken piece of the exhaust hose from a shop that was going to throw it out. I hooked that to a piece of galvanized furnace (chimney) pipe that I picked up at a garage sale. ( Hose hooks up to the car, pipe goes under the garage door.)
$2.50 invested. Works well for me.

Not the Mylar, this is the ribbed spiral aluminum. Don't know if it will work though. I'll post the results after a test run.

Auto exhaust shouldn't be any hotter than dryer exhaust. The highest temps a dryer will see is around 250 F. I would use the aluminum stuff. Very affordable.

That black ribbed flexible yard drain from Home Depot works well. 4and 6 inch diameters. You pick.
