Default Alarm Switch - Change between early and late 70?

Just curious. Did GM change the rear alarm switch in early 1970? I am ready to install the one I purchased from Zip but now I think that early 70's had a different keyhole/switch assy. My car is a Jan 23 1970 car. Also...if it is different, can anybody direct me to one?

Thanks.

Yes, the alarm switch was changed in 1970... Around VIN 13,000 if I remember correctly.

Your car would definitely use the early style switch. This has a small, chrome bezel with a slightly raised, plated keyway. It is retained in the rear valance with a 2" square by roughly 1/32" thick plate and a thin nut which screws into the threaded portion at the rear of the alarm switch. The switch was supplied by Briggs & Stratton and the keys for the alarm are identified as such.

The late design switch is similar in appearance to your door lock and is retained in the same manner as well with a "U" shaped spring clip.

The early style switch that you need (complete with keys) is available from Paragon, although it may be possible to find it through a Briggs & Stratton source as well... You'll have to check on that one. You'll have to do some leg work to find a source for the retaining nut and plate as neither are reproduced to the best of my knowledge (Paragon's "Vintage" division can help you out here, but you will pay a premium for the parts).

You're very welcome. Sorry I can't be of more help on the retaining plate/nut. I'd call around to some of the used parts vendors... You should be able to pick up both the plate and nut for $25 or so at worst.

Good luck in your parts search!

I just purchased the assy. from Paragon. They were out of the NOS locks so I purchased a kit which sound like has the attachment hardware for $18. The NOS lock alone was $46. I've got an email in to Briggs.

Thanks
