Is there such a kit?
I was wondering if anyone had ever heard or found a kit that can convert the back (straight) window on a '76 to be able to remove it whenever?? I've seen the ones for the big back window, but never seen one for the small straight back...Any suggestions or do I need to manufacture one... :smash:
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions..

The removable rear window glass was an option until about 1973 (I think that's when it was dropped) Every once and a while the removeable hardware will come up for sale on Ebay. At least one guy on the Forum has gone that route to get a removable window.

Re: Is there such a kit?
I'm looking at something similar; however, I've got a '69 with the later wrap around (1978-1982) rear window. I would LOVE to change back to the correct rear upper deck, but that comes after I get all the mechanicals on my car straightened out and am ready to go from black back to Le Mans Blue. Could I sell my rear upper deck, at least the glass anyway, when I'm ready to remove and install? Is there a market for used rear upper decks?

1969Vette350- Can you post some pictures of your car? I don't think I've ever seen a 69 with a 78-82 type rear window. Does it still have rear chrome bumpers?

76 - I am unaware of a kit, but here's my thread on the same subject. It has a picture of what are supposedly the only ingredients needed. I believe they're all available from the usual parts catalogs and it's purely bolt-in and go. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=468348 Hope this helps. I'm doing this later this year (when it's warm enough to matter!) and I'll be sure to share my experience on the forum.

Tell me if the link doesn't work: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/avanti63r1025
I have the chrome bumpers, the forementioned rear upper deck, '70-'72 style front fenders and a 1969 VIN code. The car was involved in a collision involving everything from the firewall forward I hear. The modifications were done at that time I believe. So it's not numbers matching and has some strange parts, but that's fine for my purpose because it's a Corvette I can further modify to my liking and I wasn't the one who first did it. I'm interested in having the body back to 1969 specs with the exception of those rear fender flares. My long term goals are to have a twin turbo 427 with a 6 speed gearbox behind it

That looks
A - way cool !!
B - Whaddid you do ?
I vote "A". That rear end looks very custom - and very cool.
It's quite a bit of work to get it back to "69" standards, all the way down to the gas tank and rear frame supports. We're talking welding and buying. Ouch.

Re: Is there such a kit? (Gotta Fix my '76)
There is no kit.
Your best bet will be ebay - piece-meal.
I needed the rear window for my 70. I found one for $72+shipping = ~$100.
I have the clamps and brackets, but not the interior trim pieces that go
on the roof. They have cutouts for the clamps. These are very hard to come
by - but maybe yours can be cut to work.
Keep looking and keep bidding. You'll find alkl the stuff eventually.

I think I've seen the glass part for $25 on EBay with "some scrathing" and the interior part with the cutouts for not too much in CorvAm, unless I'm mistaken.

Re: Is there such a kit? (RUXperienced)
The rear glass is available used only. Try ebay or a Corvette salvage yard. Cost is around $75 to $100 based on the condition. Make certain the two mounting pins are included.
The weatherstripping/seal is available from most Corvette parts vendors~$35.
The latches can be found on ebay or try a Corvette salvage Yard. 68 & early 69 latches differ from later ones. I believe the handles are shaped differently.
The overhead trim pieces differ from 68 & early 69 to the other years. The early version has the molded piece with a cut out and metal bezel to fit around the latch. The later units are one piece and molded to fit around the latch. These pieces come up on ebay, but for a first class piece try most Corvette part vendors ~$80 set.
There are two pieces that fit on the bottom of the rear window opening for the positioning pin to fit into. One part is a steel hold down bracket and the second is a plastic piece to minimize the squeaks. Paragon has these. I just used a piece of teflon for these pieces.
Should take an afternoon to install the window.

Re: Is there such a kit? (RMS73)
Does anyone have any pictures of this?? Maybe a better picture of what the pieces look like, so that I'll have a better idea about what I'm looking for and maybe what it looks like while the window is in their...and on ebay what do I type in, b/c "Latch" or "Window Piece" just isn't cuttin it...
Thanks you guys and thanks for your patience

Re: Is there such a kit?
I didn't do much of anything to it; mostly repair work un-doing what was done by prior owners :( She was driven hard and put away wet and involved in a collision. My current gas tank leaks, so I need a new one. If you noticed in my briefcase, I have this Eckler's sheet that I snapped a picture of with Snagit. Those are some major parts I need, the order should be sent in, in early February.

Search for Corvette rear window. This should get you something.
