Are Coated Headers worth the difference?
Price of regular Hooker Headers $ 370 vs. price of ceramic coated $ 774. Are ceramic coated ones worth paying double for?? My understanding is they look cool and keep the temp down under the hood? Any other difference?
Thanks in advance.

From what I hear on here the factory coatings aren't near as good as the aftermarket coating like Jet Hot. I think the Jet Hot coating is worth every penny, look great, no rust, no painting, run cooler, and cool off faster (in case you need to change plugs fast).

I've got a funny question: How can you tell what kind of finsh/coating is on an old set of headers? Mine are a galvanized-looking sort of grey. They are Hedman I believe and have quite a few miles on them and have never rusted or really changed much in appearence since I bought the the car. You can kind of see them in some of the engine shots on my website in the sig below.

$774 seems quite high. I have a quote from JETHOT for Hooker Competion Headers (HOK-2134) $609 to my door.
I also heard a rumor that JETHOT gives a discount to CF members, but I am not certain.

For about $220 you can get Dynomax. Maybe not the 'best' headers but hard to beat at the price. Mine look nice and do keep the eng compartment cooler.

Thanks for the reply guys...
Sorry forgot to mention that these are Canadian prices...
No rust in this car whatsoever. The car is parked in winter time...

Mine were coated by a company that advertises on Ebay called C-Tech. Great coating and they are terrific. As for the diff between coated ones and not coated, my car is still hot as dickens insidde. :smash: :cuss

They are $329 (US) from Summit for the Hooker ceramic coated Competition headers. Only $159 for uncoated.

Check this out- A few days ago I hit Jet Hot's website & emailed them for a quote on coating my headers. I got an email the next day w/ the quote. Today I got an unexpected package shipped Priority Mail from them including a video, catalog, exerpt from Car Craft showing a drop of 309 degress at idle & 268 degrees at 3200 RPMs(vs. the same headers w/ paint), a sheet w/ the quote($301 including shipping) which is to be sent back w/ headers if I decide to do it.
All that, done so quickly, for a email inquiry- I'm impressed. A long time ago I sent an inquiry re: tires to The Tire Rack and, although they sent acknowledgement of receiving my email, I never did hear back from their actual rep who they said would get in touch with me. Guess who didn't get my business? The contrast here is noteworthy. Assuming that I can avoid a potential divorce & the resulting hit to my finances, Jet Hot WILL get my business.

I got my Jet Hot package in the mail today as well. Nice marketing info.
They definitely will get my business.
Their service combined with the quality that I have seen from some of my friends is top notch.

I have Flowtech headers from JetHot for $305. IMO they're great. Been on since 1999 (about 30,000 miles) and I have zero complaints.

Hooker headers are great- they're ceramic coatings aren't.........mine lasted 30 days before starting to rust. Try Jet Hot.

My ceramnic coating is after market and for me, it is worth it. The car runs damn hot but I notice a huge difference between how these heat up vs. the uncoated ones I had on my '76.

Re: Are Coated Headers worth the difference? (SuperFast80)
This is what I gather from the opinions:
Everyone like the ceramic coated headers, some don't like the price.
Dynomax gives you better bang for the buck!
If I can get Hooker coated ones for cost price then that's what I am going for. Otherwise, DYNOMAX.
Thanks guys. :seeya
