looking for opinions concerning collector's status
i just applied collector's status to my car. i've had a cd player mounted under the passenger dash for a while. since the stipulations state that the car is to appear in stock condition, i phoned in and asked about the cd player being where it is in the car. the lady i spoke to said that it was a no-no, but i still would really like to keep it since i have no other radio (radio delete). i never asked, but would they not cover me altogether in the case of an accident or theft just because i had a cd player in my car. what do you all think?

That sounds ridiculous. Are they going to require you to wear a leisure suit when you drive the car in order to be period correct? I think I would shop for a new insurance company. :yesnod:

You shoulda used 'Ol Presidente Clinton's philosophy. "Don't ask, don't tell"! Or ask them the definition of "Appear". :lolg:
The less the insurance copmany knows the better off I am! :D
Seriously though, I just had to submit exterior photo's showing "stock" condition.
Here's one of the early pics I sent:

Friggin' bureaucrats. How did you guys let your government get away with that boondoggle? If they tried that in Texas, there would be a mass lynching of legislators on the steps of the Capitol...
Quite frankly, don't give 'em an excuse. Take out the CD player. Use a boombox if you have to! Just don't have anything that's permanently bolted or screwed down. That way it's not "part" of the car.

I think you spoke to some idiot.
A CD player is an add on. Something extra that just happens to be attached to the car. Would you be denied for having a walkman in the pass seat? How about a radar detector on the dash? Or a rear defroster plugged into the cigar lighter? What about using synthetic oil? Or new tires?
She's a moron. Keep it in the car.
Larry
PS: I wonder how the insurance company would feel about an add on security system!

funny you should ask that cuz i bought that up as well. NOPE, not allowed. i really find that bizarre, because to me, having an alarm in the car is saving money for the insurance company. i am allowed to use an immobilizer and the club - that's it.

Most Canadians don't have a choice. But it's great place to live overall...it's just that the government gets a little overbearing from time to time.
I should know. I was born there...but I had a chance to emigrate to the U.S. when I graduated from high school! :D

Can't comment on CDA insurance/laws, and LOGIC does not apply here, however logic would dictate that a minor modification like an underdash CD player would not jeopardize your liability or collision insurance. If your CD player were stolen they would not pay for the replacement of the CD player. I wonder if they let owners of older cars replace the bias ply tires (tyres) with radials, or do they allow you to install seatbelts? MJ
