air cleaner
Any recomendations for a air cleaner that fits a L48 with a Performer manifold and Q jet carb. Not specificly looking for a K&N package but would like to use a K&N element. Trying to avoid slamming the hood shut and having the air cleaner pop through the hood.

Re: air cleaner (jetech)
I just put an engine in my '76. To my surprise the 3 inch filter actually FITS!
I'm using a performer manifold and an Edlebrock Q-jet for a carb. The filter houseing is a drop-base and it fits just fine around the electric choke.
My car has insulation under the hood. Using the 3 inch filter element, a fancy and bulky chrome wingnut designed for looks will hit the insulation enough to make an impression on it! I'm afraid that if I lose a motor mount I'll also lose a hood! :yesnod: :smash:
I've never seen that happen. But I drive my car with a simple wingnut on the filter and the only time that big bulky and fancy one gets installed is in a show when parked with the hood up!
