Default Check out this AR Racing engine...

This looks like a great deal... 465 HP for $2800....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2400909705

For those who don't know - that's the company that I got my engine from... and it rocks...

I was going to rebuild my engine and get new heads and the works, but after seeing the AR engines, I've said screw it... I'm saving for one of them :D

Realllllly? :skep:
Now I would usually agree but please tell me what is cheap about that engine. If you look at the ad I don't see any cheap parts (but I'm no expert so please point out my ignorance). So the only other reason would either be you feel they are lying or they do shoddy work. If that's the case then I guess Olivier and the other people that have bought from them and done very well were just extremely lucky, right??? Or is Olivier lying too and really not doing all that drag racing (must be in his head  ) with his engine?
I'm not trying to start something, I just don't see the validity in your statement.

Why do you say that GWilliam? I'd like to hear your logic. I've done alot of research since buying one of their engines and as of yet I have not found anything that shows *cheap*. Every Dart head specification that they specify is met or exceeded. Granted.... I have not fired it up yet.

Is it just me that can't understand the meaning of something in context
rather than literally out of context?

What I was saying is they are selling a $4500+ engine for a price way below
that? How can that be? Thats too cheap, too low a price, how can they
do it?

Again, you get what you pay for is probably the most likely reason.

Then again, maybe if we believe what the add says we should all order
a few and resell them for $4-5000 since thats the retail price.

I think that they only have a few at this price and are using eBay as a marketing tool to get their name recognized. I have had no personal dealings with the company other than following Olivier's posts on it and his accomplishments with it. I would not be surprised if within another year that these type of specials disappear for them and they start charging full cost, if the word of mouth continues to be so good.

I thought the same thing before I bought my engine... I bought a 383/465 HP engine for $2995... I already have the engine since 8 months... I already put 7000 miles and 40+ Drag Strip passes on the engine and it still runs like new.. All the internals of the engine were new. You can also check their feedback rating on Ebay.. They sold 100's of engines and there's not a single complaint about the quality of their engines.. That was actually the reason to buy from them... They also have awsome tech support.. If I will need another engine, I will for sure buy it from them..

The streetability usually depends on the duration of the cam.. My cam has longer duration than the one in the ad and it's very streetable... However - for people that have automatic transmissions - they will need a high stall speed torque converter to make it streetable...

Ok. I think I have ~3500 rpm stall right now. Either that or something's malfunctioning...

I can't buy that engine right now, but maybe in a few months. :steering:

They have always lots of different engines on Ebay... It's the first time that I saw that setup.. Looks interesting to me.. If I would be looking for a engine right now - I wouldn't think twice..

I really stick my foot in my mouth sometimes guys...

Apologies to Oliver, bgrice and tshort about my suggestions that AR Racing
engines were something less than they are. Of course, you guys already
know this and now I know after several hours of research.

I really need to listen the folks on this Forum that know before I go off...

As it turns out, and maybe you all know about this, another eBay business
called MARKS PERFORMANCE ENGINES from Arizona is selling engines very
similar to AR Racing. They've got a bunch of stuff out there right now that
comes up intersperced with AR Racing when you do a search. To make it even more confusing, the owner of AR Racings first name is Mark!

BEWARE OF MARKS PERFORMANCE ENGINES of Arizona

I spoke with Mark Lim at AR Racing and he's really been having a hard time
with folks confusing his first class company with this other place.
His secretary sent me page after page of complaints about MPEofArizona
because I thought, like many others, they were the same company.
Everything from engines not delivered, broken engines, wrong parts on the
engine. Some of the complaints got really ugly and personal. First page
of their eBay feedback has 3 or 4 negatives right now.

Anyway, I need do a little more research before I jump to conclusions.
Had I read Olivers last sentence in the original post 'for those who don't
know, this is the engine I'm using...' intended for those who may not be up
to speed (like ME) I like to think I would have thought a little more before
making un-informed, stupid comments.

Been there.... done that many times. I have no direct dealing experience with Marks Performance out of Arizona, but I have not heard anything positive to sway me to think they are someone to go to for a performance engine. Thanks for your comments on them. Like I said above... I have not even fired this motor up yet, but I intend to test their tech support before I do. I'm sinking some serious money into this project(not one thing from the original motor will be used) so I think it is just common sense to let those who built the engine help me out.

I gotta admit I am looking forward to the day I start it up. The list is getting shorter of parts I need as the Dewitt alum. radiator, CVR starter & Sanderson headers are in transit or shipping soon. I still need to figure out what distributor/coil set-up I want to use with the MSD.

Tampa Bay kicked some butt by the way. :yesnod:

Mark LIM should change his first name ;)

He's a very good guy that provided me with all the information that I requested.. AWSOME tech support!!

One of the ways they may be "inflating" the retail price is that their machine work prices seem a lot higher than what I am seeing.

The @$3K price is still a great deal for this motor though. It just seems that their quoted prices for machine work are higher than what the machine shops around here would charge.

Just a thought.

I wonder if there's any business that doesn't exaggerate for marketing purposes...

Gary - No problem. There's no problem with being a skeptic, I just thought maybe you knew something I didn't. In fact being a skeptic is how I found AR.

And yes, I have also heard many bad things about Marks Performance out of Arizona. When I was initially looking at AR's engines I called Mark Lim and asked if he could provide a dyno sheet of the engine I was looking at. I wanted it mainly for a little more validity and also to see the torque curve. He said they don't send them before engine purchase any more because the guys at Mark's Perf. were stealing them and showing them as their engines. Mark Lim actually had someone come into his shop locally that had bought from Mark's Perf wanting help with the engine. It didn't put out anywhere near the power they had claimed and when Mark Lim looked at the dyno sheet they provided he saw it was an exact copy of theirs. Mark's Performance Engines are crooks and I'd never do business with them. I also haven't heard many positive things from Speedomotive either. But nothing but praise from AR so AR's got my check. :D

I know a few guys with Speedomotive engines and they are happy.. However - Speedomotive charges extra for things that are included with AR Racing engines (like Roller Rockers etc...) and the engines end up much more expensive than the low advertised price...
