Default What is the best one you have heard :-)

These are some of the statements I have heard over the last few years while showing my Corvette....please add yours :smash:

"My uncle had a stingray like that one time and he twisted more rear axles than you can count."

"So you didn't like the stingray signs on the car?"

"They sure never made a stingray that color, what color is that?"

"Aren't you scared of those roofs blowing off that ski rack?"

"My cousin use to have a very rare one, I think they only ever made four of them, it was registered for 300 miles an hour but it got pretty light at those speeds."

"What year did they stop making steel Corvettes, it was around the early sixties wasn't it?"

"The blue valve covers, that is the big engine right?"

"Those door handles are just for looks right, you step over the top to get in?"

"Those bumpers aren't original, they are rubber."

"Look mom, this car is from California. Yes that is where all these cars are made."

"Look, he put an 8-track in it."

Overheard looking at the original window invoice "He is asking $8647.65 for it. Maybe he will take less, the show is almost over, go ask him."

"It must be a pain getting the spare tire out from behind the seat with no trunk cover?"

"My uncle bought one of the first Corvettes that was made. It was bright red with a 409 engine, wouldn't that thing go."

"Mommy, why is part of the roof sticking up? Well, he hasn't put it all the way down dear."

"We are having an argument here. What is that key hole in the fender for? Does it put the roof up and down or put the lights up?"

and the one I realled liked..."I have heard that when the temperature gets really hot the the dark colored Corvettes get really soft and you have to be careful around them."

"What kid of car is that?'
"Want to sell it?"
"Very nice ride, dude"
"What ya got under the hood?"

At a local cruise in, I pulled in, slowly inching forward, looking for a nice parking spot, 533 incher rumbling through the spirals. I park and pop the hood to cool it down. A throng of peeps descend upon the car and they see the stock chrome covers and the factory tri power....this comment coming from one guy:

"Aw...he ain't got nuthin', just a puny 427."

I talked with a new corvette owner(72 L48) once at a show, we both had our cars in the show. He continued to blow smoke up my rear end with :bs . My stepson was with me and asked me later if the guy was telling the truth about the car. The guy kept telling me how hard it was to keep from spinning the tires. He could spin the tires at 60 MPH(auto). And the tires were so expensive to replace on corvettes you know. This thing gets light in the front end when you get so fast, it will lift the front tires off the ground. :bs

Here's one more, I'm standing behind a couple guy's that are arguing about the year of my 56 at a local cruise-in... One guy insist's its a 51 and the other guy maintained it was a 52 ! They both seemed to have supporting evidence as proof....
Man oh man, the plate says ITZA56....... :D

I had one person say "That one is made out of steel, right? They stopped with the fiberglass in the 60's, didn't they?"
A friend of mine told me about this kid that was talking about my Corvette and how slow it is with just the 305. But he also was saying how another kid's '98 Neon beat me in a race. I guess you lose when you are many car lengths ahead.

Ricer comes up to me and my bro when we were driving the 88 and said, "What year is that?" Brother said, " an 88". The ricer said, "awe, old tech, my neon would whoop it." Brother said, "Let's run" Ricer said, "No, I'm having tranny problems..." Ricer walks off..... We crack up laughing.

I have only one that occured before a parade at a local high school. A student walked up to me and asked... "Did the club that you're in help you buy your car? How can I be a member?"

"Is that a '68 or a '77?" (from a guy trying to impress his girlfriend while inquiring about my '74 vert).

Well I've got to tell you guys the story first before I can give you the quote. It's about 10 o'clock on a Sunday night, and the roads are pretty dead, so I'm driving down a local street that has two lanes on each side, in my rear view mirror I can see some sort of ricer flying up behind me. So we stop at the light, be he won't pull up next to me, he stays behind me instead. Now there's an underpass about 250 yards away. The light turns green, and I accelerate away from the light at a normal speed (I have the stereo cranked up too). A lady in front of me puts on her blinker to turn onto the highway on ramp, so switch into the left lane and go around her, still only in 3 rd gear at about 2,000 rpm, I'm now within a 150 yards of that underpass, and the ricer flys past me at WOT in a Ford Contour SVT with dual 4"exhaust tips . He's now about 4 car lengths ahead of me, so I drop the vette into 2nd gear, put it to the floor, and by the time we got to that underpass I had passed him :chevy. I laugh and go on my merry way. About a week later, I pull into a gas station where my buddy works, and the kid with the Contour is there, in some else's pickup truck. He says to his buddy "You that car (pointing at my vette), I smoked that thing last week" now I recognize who he is. I told him anytime he wanted to race, to tell me, he knows where to find me, and I'll blow his doors off. Needless to say he had no response and hasn't taken me up on my offer yet, which I knew he wouldn't anyway. I don't condone street racing, but he had to be tought a lesson.

Binnie,
This one really took me off guard. Last summer at a cruise day. Father in late 30s with a young son (~9) in tow. We chit-chatted for about 10 minutes and I mentioned how long I owned the car, how I had taken early retirement to enjoy the car and life in general while my health was good, the Wife was still working, etc. And I work part-time at what I wish. As they walked away the young fellow asked a question: Daddy, why does he have a nice car like that and you do not? The answer was, "Because he is a DINKER."

I have been called a number of things but that was a first. The acronym perplexed me but it left my mind until I saw the same Father about a month later at another cruise day/evening. So I asked him about DINKER. He laughed and explained. You have Double Incomes with No Kids and are a Early Retiree: DINKER. Some people have rich imaginations ;) .

"What's it go under the hood yo?"

-----427 BB

"Those old dinsaur's are slow my Civic could take it."

---------Really, what have you done to your Civic?

"Man, I got a billet shift ****, some motec mufflers, and some fat neon's."

Another story, talked to a ricer at O'reilly's.

I was talking to a friend about a mutual friend who ran at the track the night before. The ricer barged in the conversation and said
"how fast is that camaro?"

I said he rain a 11.2 on the motor.

"That's all my friend has a stock '02 Civic with a 500hp shot of NAWZ
and is running 10.5"

A 500 shot of nitrous would probably blow any stock motor to pieces on the first run, nevermind a 4 cylinder civic :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg: :lolg:

My 75 ran 15's when it had the bone stock L48. This guy I know said "My 82 Diplomat would whip that thing", which is true, it has a MP 360 in it and runs 12's.
My reply was,"Yeah, but its still a DIPLOMAT.
