Default back bumper material

i was curious what the back bumper was made out of on a 1980, as you can see from my photo mine is warped, so is it rubber, i was told by the previous owner it warped because it was sitting in the sun on a 100 degree day, is that realistic, anyone else have this problem, and can i melt it back into place?

I believe it is neoprene/urethane or some similar material. They ALL warp, wave & buckle after awhile. Best bet is to replace with fiberglas. All the catalogs and mail-order houses have replacement bumpers. I am happy with my bumper from Eckler's and, after it is painted, will never have to worry about disfigurement again.

No, you cannot heat/melt it back into shape (However, if you do develop such a process, you will be the wealthiest individual on this forum).

Check out this thread, it might help you make an educated decision on what to do about replacing your bumper.
