Times are getting tough for just about everyone. I hate to see him have to do it. Sure wish I had an extra 70 grand laying around.

Regardless of the money issue, it is a waste to let the car sit, especially since the building of it was the dream if I remember correctly.

Ummmm... I don't get it - "but cars like this require someone who really has the time to tinker with them & optimize all the settings (fuel/air mixture, cast/camber etc). In essence, it requires a true supercar enthusiast."
Isn't the reason that he went with the fuel injection is because it's so easy to setup and how often does a car require an 4-wheel alignment?
Oh pulease... Of course he has to plant the 30+ pics on the auction that take forever to load.

If you sell the engine and replace it with, let's say the new injected ZL-1, you could offset the 70k a bit and have a TRUE performer.
Too bad I don't have the cash.

Re: Merlins car on ebay?!? (KATMAN)
the new ZL-1 is waaaaay overrated if you ask me. if your saying its not a true performer because of its traction poblems, take off the blowers. you'll still have more power than the ZL-1, but it would only be in the 600 range.
but then thats just if you ask me. which you didnt, so i'll go sit in my corner. :leaving:

Yep, there are probably cheaper alternatives to the ZL-1. You have to admit that the weight savings and very adequate power of the ZL-1 is pretty cool and would work quite well in that car.
Anyhow, my point is that the Merlin engine could bring in some big $$ all by itself. It would probably go real well in an offshore boat or drag car. Sell it complete and then take a portion of that money to get a more reasonable engine in that car. My feeling has always been that the car was done right, it was just the engine that ruins any hopes of it being the performer that 'ol Merlin dreamed it to be.
The whole idea would be to effectively get the Merlin for less than 70k and get the thing to actually perform. Best of both worlds eh?

It's not too sad.
I haven't followed the project from dat one - so I know relatively little about it,
but I DO recall reading that Steve wanted to sell the car some time after
it was built.
He said that he wanted to do it - not keep it. His intentions seemed to be
that anothe rproject was on the way. From more recent statements,
it would seem otherwise.
This is a wonderful dream for someone - but not my cup of tea.
Good luck to Steve selling her !!
