Default 73's where do they fit?

I don't know if it's me or not, but it seems that 73's get left out a lot. How many times on here do we here "68-72 chrome bumper cars". Last time I looked there was one on there, so wouldn't it be included as a chrome bumper car even though it only has one (actually two but you know what I mean). Then we even get left out of the rubber bumper car category, it's got one on the front the last time I looked. Seems like the 73 has some sort of identity crisis or something. Is it a chrome bumper car are not  or are there chrome bumper cars, rubber bumper cars, and then 73's?

Pat,

It's not just you, 73's seem to get left out in the cold more often than not
It seems that the 73 is indeed the bastard of all the C-3's, they rarely get recognized as chrome bumper cars and they usually are not considered rubber bumper cars. And why was there not a 20th anniversary version that year? :mad :D

But I like the fact that the 73 is different from all other C-3's, it just means that they are in a class by themselves and that makes them special. :D

They don't need to fit in. They are very beautiful cars.

I love the look of the 73's. My 73 Mach 1 was the same way and so was my 73 Firebird. It makes the nose look cleaner and a couple inches longer. The car still has that early 70's look with the rear bumpers. Besides it never hurts to have a couple more inches.

I agree. I don't like the split bumper in the 74's or the plain looking rear of the 75-79 without the spoiler. The chrome azz end on the '73 breaks it up nicely.

The front to me looks faster and meaner without that heavy metal on the front. You got the best of both worlds.

Gotta love the '73s! Clean frontend, chrome rear bumpers; lost the wiper door and gained a great looking cold air hood.

When I bought mine I knew NOTHING about corvettes and had no idea what I was buying. When I was talking to the previous owner he was trying to pitch it to me by giving me all the '73 only characteristics (which meant nothing to me at the time). Since then I fell in love with the '73 vettes. there aren't too many around where I live so other vette owners usually take notice.

All of them are great cars but, yes the '73 is a bit unique. It blurrs the gender lines!

Now this is my kind of topic :D :D

"Larry Shinoda, the famous Corvette designer, once commented in an interview that the 1973 was his favorite of the post-1967 era because the front and rear styling were closest to what the stylists originally had in mind when this series was first designed."
(Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide by Michael Antonick).

:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
"Zora Arkus-Duntov reckons the new Corvette to be the best ever, and after exhaustive testing of four different models, we're inclined to agree"
(Car and Driver, Dec 1972, in their road test of the new 1973 Corvette)

:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

The '73 is a unique car, a kind of transition car. It sometimes gets lumped into the smog control cars but those are really '75 and later. Seldom gets lumped into the chrome bumper cars even though it has chrome on the rear. Its L82 is only 5 hp short of the previous LT1 (but mag tests have them running dead even) and the LS4 454 is 5 hp stronger then the previous LS5 454.

tom...

Same boat, just new I wanted a muscle car and just happen to go looking at a vette dealer. It was in my price range and I really liked the way it looked. Although now I realized I paid too much, I am very glad I fell into it!
