Side exit exhaust - not side pipes
My dad mentioned, although jokingly, about putting sidewinder exhaust on my Corvette as I struggled to drop the exhaust (unsuccessfully, time for the torch). I actually like the idea though. I would need some sort of flow through circular muffler on it though. It'd basically just go through the transmission crossmember, and angle right towards the wheel with a muffler on that part. I think it would sound mean, and it would either look mean or look ghetto, still don't know on that one. I probably won't do it, but ideas are fun to toss around. What do you guys think of this?

I did that on my first car (71 Cutlass). I liked the look then but I wouldn't know about a vette until I actually saw it. I believe that they call that style the "Daytona" look. Can you get a muffler under the car in that area?

Probably not a full size, but I think you can get a straight through round style fiberglass packed one in there.

It could be done, but you would have to do it NASCAR style with a wide, flat, oval pipe at the exit end. It would look cool, but might be loud! The GT350R Shelby's had a unmuffled side exhaust and it's da bomb, baby :yesnod:

On a live axle rear end cutting the ex. off before the axle avoids the loop over the axle. Have done that. It can ex. there or in front of the tires. In a low slung Corvette w/ IRS, it is not really worthwhile though.

Id like to see it done. Would it be like the 70 AAR Cuda? Is that what you are thinkin of?
If it turned that you didnt like the look, you could always put on oe sidepipe covers and fake that you have real sidepipes.
Somebody should do it!!

If memory serves ther is like zero room under the seats for mufflers, barely enough for a decent pipe...
Otherwise I think it would LOOK cool

Yeah, sort of like the Cuda. My dad mentioning it reminded me to the one I saw on the Barret Jackson auction.
Then why use a muffler? Mmm, straight exhaust. I wonder if one couldn't use some sort of chambered exhaust under the car as opposed to a muffler.

Clark's Corvair Parts makes a stainless steel chambered pipe for the 140's and turbos that looks like an old glasspack that would probably fit under the car. It also has provisions for baffles or packing in the listing I saw in their catalog.

I'm in the process of doing exactly that with my '73. I bought the Dynomax 24215 Bullet Mufflers from Summit (4" round, 16" long) for 31 bones a-piece for 2 1/2 inch inlet/outlet. There's room to the inside of the seat pans for the mufflers, after the crossmember, then about a 60 degree turn to exit in front of the rear wheels. I haven't finished bending, so I can't speak to the Bubba look, but it sure is cheaper than sidepipes, and less hazardous to the ladies.

Hi
Check out 454big's 78 Vette on the german Forum ( corvetteforum.de ).
He's got something similar to what you want.
It even has 4 pipe exhausts just in front of the aft wheels.

I really like this idea and would like to try it out also. What clearance would be needed between the tube muffler and the seat pans? Maybe some insulation would be needed.
Tried finding 454Big's car on corvetteforum.de but its all foreign, no english!
Found it.
