improving start times aka 0-60mph
My car is really slugish from stop to secong gear. I was testing my car with my frineds new celica and i was right with him till i hit second gear then i just took off and was gone. How can i improve off the line. Not really talking about racing but that will be considered as well, Its just like driving a station waggon up hill till i get into secong gear.
i was told gears, or carb but i want to knwo what all of you thought
thanks a lot

With the information provided I would have to say;
1. Lower rear gears
2. Higher stall speed torque converter
3. Big block :D

Are you inquiring about launching techniques? If so, what engine/trans/gears do you have?
If a 4-speed, the best technique is to dump the clutch at the rpm that will result in only about 10 ft of wheelspin. Shifting to second, IMO, should be done at redline, which is usually past the power peak. Some like to shift at the power peak, but the advantage of shifting later is that the rpm drops into the middle of the torque curve instead of the beginning.

I would go with the converter. My C4 came with a 2.59 gear and was dissappointing at the light. My only change was a higher stall and now it takes off like it has a 4.11

If its an automatic trans, put a 2500rpm stall convertor in it. That was just about the first mod I did to my vette. I did it before any engine mods or gear changes and before I swapped in the 2004R tranny. The stall convertor alone, knocked 4 tenths off my ET in my then otherwise, all stock L48 350 with TH400 and 3.08 rear. The gain was all in first gear. No other single mod did more for the car alone. :yesnod:

Re: improving start times aka 0-60mph (Jvette73)
dave and i talked about this last night. im not sure what it is, but i think it may be a really high 1st trans gear.
i believe he has a 3000RPM stall, but no transbrake, 3.70/3.73 rear gear ratio and an otherwise high performing vette. he told me he has tried stalling at 3000 and launching, which i would never hook up if i stalled that high. so im not sure whats wrong, but it sounds weird to me. but without driving it, i cant really tell whats wrong. :confused:
